SPF - sun protection factor.
This is the number of times increase that the cream gives your skin. The average skin will burn in 15 minutes
SPF 4 - 60 mniutes
SPF 40 - 600 minutes
So if you get all day protection cream it means the cream will last all day on the skin but you won't be protected for 12 hours!!
i.e SPF 4 = 1 hour before burn. So, you can stay in the sun for 1 hour then seek shade.
My advice - if your out all day hiking etc you should use SPF 50/60. You are uspposed to reapply every 2 hours but to be honest I find that factor 50 lasts me all day even in 50 degrees heat of Tunisia!!
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think what your saying is correct. The 'one a day' works the same as if you are wearing a normal factor cream and applying it every hour or each time you get out of the water.
If you wear factor 8 and apply it through out the day you won't burn and the same applies with the one a day provided you follow the instructions and you are wearing the correct factor for your skin type.
From my own experience we have used P20 for at least 5 years and last year puiz buin. We though it was a lot easier and safer than trying to reapply the suncream each and everytime our children came out the pool only to jump back in 2 minutes later. The only time they have looked a little pink is when they should have had a higher factor on their shoulders and we applied a factor 30 to those areas before any damage was caused.
I think with any cream you have to be aware and if in doubt apply some more, a higher factor or seek the shade.
My children also wear the one a day everyday for school so I know they are protected during break, lunch, PE, sports day etc.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0 -

from cancerhelp.org:
"The SPF tells you the amount of protection the sun cream gives against UVB radiation. We recommend at least factor 15. This is because it gives the best balance between protection and cost. The higher factor creams are more expensive, but do not give much more protection than factor 15. If you use
Factor 15, only 7% of the harmful UVB rays will get through
Factor 30, only 4% of the harmful UVB rays will get through
Factor 60, only 2% of the harmful UVB rays will get through
So you can see, you are getting some more protection with the most expensive creams, but not that much more. There is no sun cream that can give you total protection. 98% protection (with factor 60) is about the best you will get.
UVA protection is shown by 0 to 5 stars. But, this is only a rough guide because it is also affected by the SPF. A cream with SPF 25 and 3 stars may give more UVA protection overall than a cream with SPF 10 and 4 stars."

Not sure about this Superdrug 10% offer: the registration page asks for your address, then the date you are going on holiday and then how long for.
Maybe I am too suspiscious, but this is building up a great database of houses that will be empty and worth breaking into!!!0 -
Both Boots and Superdrug had all Piz Buin on BOGOF yesterday.
According to the Tesco price checker it is also half-price at Sainsbury's!0 -
Got Factor 15 Allergy Piz Buin at £5.99 today in Tescos. They had money off all sun tan lotions.0

Just put in fake holiday dates!0 -
Not sure if fake dates would be any better: I wouldn't want someone sniffing around my house thinking that I am out..........0
