I've been watching these on ebay for about a fortnight! They seem to sell for about £40. That includes a cover, it stands about 85 cm tall. Seems a good price?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I think this is the table top variety you mention , they usually sell for about £45/£50 in the shops .0 -
I'd just like to thank gromituk for 2 things.
1. Motivating me to sign up to MSE so I can post replies.
2. Helping me make my mind up to buy a patio heater - in fact I may buy two...0 -

We might scoff about Americans air-conditioning their gardens. This is on the same scale of decadence.
Air-conditioning is actually one of the most effecient mechanisms for heating/cooling.
The prinicipal works on the theory of heat exchange...take heat from one place and put it somewhere else...

Thanks to the original poster. 10 of these now line my driveway..
Helps dry my 6 Litre Jeep after the rain.0 -
You've half-understood something here and drawn an incorrect conclusion. It certainly means that for heating it's more efficient; for cooling the extra heat produced by the energy running the air conditioning is just as much a problem to get rid of as the heat you've pumped out of the place you're trying to cool! In other words, exactly the opposite of what you're asserting.paullj wrote:Air-conditioning is actually one of the most effecient mechanisms for heating/cooling.

Yes - maybe you've learnt something today and won't go wasting money on running air conditioners unnecessarily because you mistakenly think they are efficient. This forum is about saving money and preachers should beware.
Brilliant - the more people who bulk-buy these the better, because no way will they be able to afford to run them all! :rotfl:Thanks to the original poster. 10 of these now line my driveway..Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

The principal remains the same. The cost of the extra energy is a totally different issue.gromituk wrote:Yes - maybe you've learnt something today and won't go wasting money on running air conditioners unnecessarily because you mistakenly think they are efficient.
But I'm loaded so it doesn't matter !!gromituk wrote:Brilliant - the more people who bulk-buy these the better, because no way will they be able to afford to run them all! :rotfl:
But I'm loaded so I can !!!
Your concern for the environment is touching. I suggest you move to the Antarctic to monitor first hand just how much ice I melt by running all these heaters and post the results here.
Thanks again to the OP !. These are not bad units and I reckon if I take the deflectors off I can really cause Global meltdown.
Seriously though I respect your opinion even if I do not share it.0 -
Hehe - I love the image of you sitting in a smoking Armageddon where your garden used to be, just to prove your point!
I acknowledge the edit to add the last line and appreciate that.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
