I find it hard to believe Em that a company that size would not offer you the hours you need considering the law now. And they have to reply to you in writing showing what good business reasons they have for the refusal which if you took higher would be chucked out.
the staff at my branch all work odd hours, most are part time really. some work 10-4 hours, some work a full day, and i can think of one that only works every other sunday (?) so i have never really thought that there would be any problem with my hours. there is also a rota so most staff dont have set days off so really if there was a problem with a day i could or couldnt work, there is no reason they couldnt jiggle the other staff around, i saw it happen enough while i was there!
which is the reason i havent actually put my request to work part time hours into writing, because it never seemed like there would really be a need to, things there are organised in a "please can i do this, thanks" kind of way  do you think i now should? if so do you think i should wait until i have spoken to my boss when she calls me from her own maternity leave?
in the time that i've left, 2 people have left, and 4 or 5 new members of staff have been taken on! and when i left, we were stood around waiting for customers to come in most of the day, so i dont know why they have taken them on?
as far as i can see, the only legal ground they would have to not have me back would be that i cant work saturdays, as it is the busiest day there. but, there are more staff than equipment/customer desks as it is! the waiting area on a saturday is usually full of both customers and staff waiting for desks to serve them
ETA - i know when you request flexible working hours you're meant to put that in writing, but i'm not doing that, i'm asking to work less hours when i go backMummy to

Wait and talk to her first, otherwise it could do more harm than good, but it's just what I would do. XToo many children, too little time!!!0

Hello all,
I'm still lurking: waiting for things to happen here so I can join properly. Looks like I'm going to be one of the only september due date ladies to actually go on time or late
I just wanted to say I love the wedding dress pictures - you're all so prettyI'd like to second (or third!) the idea of going for a different colour dress: when I got married last year, I tried on all the whites / creams / golds I could but not one suited me. What ended up being my perfect dress was one I never would have thought about: a shorter bridesmaids dress in deep chocolate brown
I loved it!
Also, a question if you don't mind? Those of you whose waters broke before labour started, how did you know that they had broken? Seems a bit paranoid, but worried that what I think is just an embarrassing tendancy to 'leak' is actually a slow drip of waters0 -
Squishy - I had a slow leak with my first pregnancy - felt like I was leaking a bit of wee every time I took a step. I was told to lie down for 30 mins then get up and if there was a gush it was my waters. There was no gush, but I'm certain I had a leak of some kind as Imogen was all dried out when she arrived 3 days later.
Second time around my waters definitely went in bed at 4am. I really did think I was wetting myself! But I had no control over the leaking so knew it wasn't just lazy pelvic floor muscles.
If you're worried get your MW to check it out as they'd be concerned about infection after 24 hours.
I've come across this https://www.securesiteoffers.com/googcm/091509/index.php?subid=200041&subid2=43123&hitid=669261458 Anyone got any experience of this kind of thing? Righty.. bottle in his mouth
Firstly, have you given eight weeks notice that you want to go back before your year of leave is up? (I'm assuming you're going back when your SMP/MA stops). Your employer automatically assumes you are having the full year off and you need to give eight weeks notice that you're not taking it all - they can insist you don't work during those eight weeks so you could find yourself without income between SMP/MA finishing and them letting you back to work and paying you for the pleasure. Info here.
Next, going back on reduced hours IS a form of flexible working and as such you do need to apply in writing. Info here. The process of making an application can take upto 14 weeks so needs starting ASAP. Guide to making an application is here - there's a template letter link from there too.
Not telling you off for not doing it properly, but if you've done it properly it backs up your case for appeal if they don't do their bit properly.
