Hey,
I've finally decided it's time to brave the parent thread! I had my little boy Austin on the 07/08/09 and he'll be 6 weeks on Friday, it's been a challenging few weeks and he has reflux so we're trying to get to grip with that too. On the whole i think we're doing pretty well, we're just getting the hang of a proper routine and he understands night from day, so at night will go down at 7pm and then feed and then sleep throughout the night, we're just about getting to 3 hour feeds in the day and slightly longer at night, and considering that he spews such a lof of feed he's putting on weight at an incredible rate, he put on 16oz last week and 14oz the week before, i must be producing lard i think!
Has anyone got any experience of reflux, we're on baby gaviscon at the moment but I'm not sure how much good its doing....
I will try and keep up but i never managed it on the parenting thread so i can't promise i will manage it now! Hope you're all doing ok with your bundles, there's a lot of names i recognise on this thread so it's not quite to scary coming to introduce myself!
Sorry to hear about eh reflux. But well done on the weight! Lilia puts on about 11oz a week and the HV says I make gold top! :rotfl::cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Skinty - We're following the baby whisperer instead of Gina Ford, the contented baby went against all my instincts but the baby whisperer seems to be a lot more about listening to your baby and reading their cues and it seems to work, Austin's still a tad grumpy here and there but on the whole he's a happy baby because of that book, my sisters doing it too and she swears by it as does my friend who's little boy is one now.
Good luck tho...it's hard work to get them into the routine but it's worth it...and the baby whisperer doesnt advocate leaving babies to cry it out.....0 -
I have no idea what all these techniques are, attachment, gina, CIO etc etc. I've just made it up as I go along. And that is not me having a go at anyone who does use any of that stuff. When I was pregnant with DS1 I didn't have internet so the whole pregnancy I didn't have a clue about being a mum or being pregnant so I just went with what felt right so I had no goals or standatrds to live upto except not leaving him on a bus, not letting him choke on peanuts and keeping him alive long enough for him to tell me exactly where I'd went wrong.
All 3 of my babies have slept well and I have no idea why. I feed them, change them when they are dirty, cuddle them when they cry and let them lie down when they are sleepy even if it means they are awake and grisling, unless they are really screaming I'll leave them be.
And then I get days like today when I think that everything I do is wrong, my house is a tip, I'm really very bored and underwhelmed with the whole baby thing again, I guess no matter what we do we will doubt ourselves so we should just do what needs to be done to get by with as few tears as possible.
Get me all emo and stuff  I need a choc ice and to play fable 2.
ETA, Amber is squeezing out a poop so I have 'gnnneeee gnaaaaa gneeee gnaaaaa' going on in the corner0 -

I've got that book too but can;t see how to get it to work. Lilia cries if she doesn;t get what she wants, and BW says to pick them up then put them back down once they settle, but she DOESN'T settle once she's upset - she has to be fed before she will calm down or go to sleep.
I have the most difficult/demanding baby in the world :rolleyes::cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

It isn;t actually the massive pile of tosh I expected, but it only makes surface-sense, as she doesn;t explain how to do it and is also really anti having baby in your room, or using slings, and even says newborns can have a routine which seems crazy to me.
Oh yeah, and she is childless so not actually qualified to speak! Being a nanny is NOT the same at all IMO.
I completely agree. The bonding with a parent is something that a nanny will never get, so she does not have the most essential qualification required to comment  I think she would be best to shut the f**k up:rotfl:
Hi Hypno
Jas had reflux for a bit, it gets better eventually is all I can tell you. Sorry
SM, he plays WOW with all the extensions and needs unlimited download for it. Trust me we have gone through everything we can get over here, and at £17.99 a month for internet only, that is the best we can get :rolleyes:The two best things I have done with my life

How did you find all that out? Is there an easy way or did you have to search everyone individually?chopsticks wrote: »Krystal (or anyone else)...what are the current guidelines on the storage of breast milk in the fridge?
When I first started expressing, everything I read said 48 hours but my HV told me that they'd revised the guidelines recently (as in very recently) and the advice was that it can be stored for 5 days in the fridge.
I've got some that I expressed two nights ago that Caitlin hasn't had yet and I'm wondering whether I should chuck it (as much as it pains me to do so)

Tia - I just love a bit of research i think, and I like to have an idea of what i'm doing, the concept of just winging it terrifies me! The baby whisperer has made me a lot more confident to go with my instincts i think, and it helps me have something to fall back on when it all seems to be going t*ts up!
Skinty- We were on 2 hour feeds only 2 weeks ago, i realised he could go longer between feeds and started working on upping the time between them by maybe a few mins at a time by any means necessary, lots of distraction techniques!! If you want to catch up for coffee i can talk you through what we did? Not that it's by any means gospel but sometimes it just helps to be able to have a moan, i was getting very upset with the every 2 hour feeds, it was exhausting...0 -

a lot of the books are written by people who dont have children and as every baby is different obviously it wont work for every child! i have a different way for each of my children i know what to do to stop them crying and how to get them to behave (remember the stare your mum used to do lol:o)
Congrats Hypno abi had reflux and she is now 4! it was really hard at the time but before you know it he will be bossing you about and it will all be a distant memory:D
ETA what a great birthdate! What's for you won't go past you0
