Hi there
Aol recently decided they did not provide my broadband even though they have done for years, so before hand in the same house with the same phone line i was getting 1meg, aol reconnected the broadband eventually, they had to do a housemove request, even though i wasnt moving , and i got connected.
Now i am only recieving half a meg, the plonkers at aol keep saying you moved house and the line is capable of slower speeds , no point in talking to them they are trained to get on your nerves.
My question is there any way of telling if aol have restricted me to half a meg on the pc or do i take there stupid work for it,
As i say i was getting 1 meg before the mystery disconnection.
I know Aol are crap but the price and unlimited usage suits me.

Yes.
You have been put on a fixed speed 512kbps service
Plugging those stats into...
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed.php
Which says...
Based on the values you entered, we estimate that your line can support around 2.8 - 3.6 Mbps.
There could be more if your internal wiring isn't up to scratch and you fix it.0 -
nothing has changed since i was getting the full meg though0

You should be able to get a faster speed with those figures but if your internal wiring/extensions is not up to standard then they may have capped your speed to make it stable. Change to a better ISP. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes it has - they've changed you to a FIXED SPEED 512kbps connection and there is no way that that type of connection will ever deliver anything other than 512kbps.nothing has changed since i was getting the full meg though
AOL support are terminally useless so you have absolutely no chance of getting this fixed while you stay with them.0 -

It isn't just a language barrier - it is the problem of contacting a rep who knows anything at all about the product he is supposed to be supporting.0
