Morning all! :hello:
Celyn: what a fab cake!
MSD: Yankee fan here too, but I have just bought a load of reduced ones from Clarks Village while I was on holiday. Have got Lemon Lavender on at the moment...
Dull and miserable here, whoch suits my mood! Am a bit  with school at the moment, they keep chopping and changing meetings without telling you, and then are downright rude when you ask about it! Makes me wonder why I actually bother helping out with stuff.
Anyway... have a big bag of windfall apples from a friend so will be making some chutney later. Am also going to make some cheese and onion pasties for lunchboxes and a tuna pasta bake for supper. May also have to make some more cakes as the Twinks Hobnobs and Bara Brith I made are disappearing fast!
Started trying to crochet my brooch last night but got into a tangle, as I say it is a long time since I last crocheted anything. I will have to try again when I'm not so tired. In the meantime I am cracking on with my cross stitch Christmas cards.
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
What a fantastic cake Ceyln. It almost seems a shame to cut it up, although I'm sure the taste will be worth itThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0

Ds3 in germany has to have his hand pinned,he was told yesterday, and will be off work for 6 wks as the bone is split all the way to the wrist.Ddil asked me to go over for a week when he is off as 'men are babies' when sick and it will give her a break!
Is anyone watching 'the week we went to war'? the small amount of food and very little in the way of the seasonings we use today.I will have to borrow 'We'll eat again' from the library and try some of the wartime recipes, could be useful in being more ms :money:
The postie has just delivered my labels from 'the jamjar shop' lovely, and i only ordered them friday so very quick, more jam and marmalade to be made
Housew**k today is a general whizz through, wash kitchen and bathroom floors and make some more cake to freeze. Meals will be fridge pot luck today.

Ooh great cake Celyn:T
I've just made these . They look and smell great although not as orange as in the picture but I think that was because my Cheddar wasn't orange. Is all Cheddar orange in the States?
I made a few teeny adjustments to the recipe -using butter instead of shortening and frying the onion in the bacon fat rather than adding it raw.
It is basically a savoury scone. Just use 8-9oz flour and 2oz butter. They are supposed to be eaten warm but I'm packing them in lunchboxes and I think they'll be fine;)
Must do the ironing -yawn.
Breakfast was eggy crumpets for the boys and buttered crumpets for dd plus orange juice. I had the leftover beaten egg scrambled.
The lunchboxes today are as follows
Dd -a little tub of cream cheese, some breadsticks and two mini ham and cherry tomato kebabs on cocktail sticks.
A square of chocolate biscuit cake, a tub of strawberries and grapes
Ds1 +2
Ciabatta filled with ham and cheese plus the same as dd.
OH
Ciabatta filled with ham, cheese, tomatoes and leaves plus an apple and choc bis cake.
Not sure what I shall have.
Supper will be sausage and chickpea stew with baked potatoes.0 -
Celyn - brilliant cake - well done:T
halight - hope the EEG goes ok for you xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Had some of that last week after seeing Julie & Julia - went straight to the Sainsburys near the tube and got a couple of crusty sundried tomato rolls, basics brie and that . Didnt know they did Basics wine!!It's actually quite nice. Not very strong but quite fruity. Certainly drinkable.
Well in order to be able to make a proper judgement I shall be sampling said wine when I make the teaKeep you posted (provided I don't end up sozzled!) - receipe only needs half a bottle so I can't let the other half go to waste :rotfl:

Thriftlady: Those biscuity sconey things look gorgeous! I'm not sure that just one would be enough though, they look very moreish...
DD and I have just had cheese and onion pasties still warm from the oven for lunch... in the interests of quality control you understand, as we wouldn't want to poison OH by putting untested pasties in his lunchbox! Then we had Yoghurt from the Easi-Yo and Twinks Hobnobs for pud. Am very full now, and somewhat lacking in energy to make the chutney...0 -
Hiya all :hello:
I hope everyone is doing well. Celyn, that cake is spectacular. I am right jealous.
Today, it seems my newly acquired MS ways are going to have to go extreme - It's looking like I'm ineligible for Jobseekers Allowance despite the fact I'm unemployed (and panicking) because they are going from the tax year (07/08) when I was in university and the income based one is probably knocked out by Mr Maitane's wages (which won't support the two of us and pay everything). So yes, PANIC! Or not, I am transforming/earmarking everything in the cupboards to be made into meals and frozen - no waste and no excuse to go the supermarket/takeaway - and I'm going to look at giving languages tuition again.
I'm not sure how on topic this is but - has anyone used (or considered using) a tutor for their children or to learn a new language? I'm just trying to get a feel for whether it would still be popular in this climate.
Back to topic - In my kitchen, I will be making:
- Swedish meatballs from some reduced sausagemeat I bought
- Chicken and leek pies (again reduced chicken)
- Cheese and Onion pie (I got a 2lb lump of cheddar for 45p from Mr M's on Sunday afternoon!)
- Chicken tandoori
- Chilli, lasagne and shepards pie from a batch of mince I've slowcooked with grated carrot, celery, onion, oats and lentils
I have learnt fast!
And any ideas for the best use of 12 sausages (reduced to 39p!), other than sausage rolls, would be greatly appreciated.
I will then be using a substantial amount of bicarb and vinegar to clear up the mess I make!
Many hugs and positive vibes towards those who would like them.

Hi Hun, I paid for my dd to have French lessons from the age of four when she started Primary school, she went to a local lady, who lived opposite the school, and she took three children at a time for 1/2 hr after school on a friday, my dd now speaks french very well, and is in the top set at school and will be sitting it as a GCSE :T, well worth the extra money imho.
On the same subject, I have just phoned a private physics tutor for dd, she is going to need extra help, but he charges £21 per hr, and he advised one hr per week , going to have to have a good think about it, its a lot to find each month.
Ok I have two loads blowing on the line, have hoovered top to bottom, mopped floors, cleaned kitchen and bathroom, made beds. I made up some egg mayonaise and bacon sandwich filler, from some eggs and bacon which needed using.
The bean casserole is in the sc, but I am not too sure I like the look of it, and I have made a batch of sag paneer :T, first time I have done this, but it tastes and looks good
And I finally got round to hoovering the car out, one of my most hated jobs.
Going to have a rest for 1/2 hr now, and then wash up the bits I have used, and get washing in and put away ( I dont iron :T)
Have fun xx
Celyn, your cake looks brilliant, well done xx
Halight good luck for today xx0
