Thanks for the recent posts, kind people. Yes, the Mistress is in the House......

Have updated my sig. to show where the debts are now, and the relevant rates. Will change again next week as I start to pay off the RBS one, my new first target. Bit annoyed with myself still for mismanaging things, and ending up paying two BT fees -and adding to the debt, naturellement - but pleased to have it split across two cards, as to me this is more manageable (i.e. small chunks works better for moi) than just dealing with it all via Egg, as it would have been, had I not done the BTs.....but whatever, there are much worse things, as have just read via Hypno's thread of Taxi's diagnosis, so my problem is very very small beer, and am thinking of her.....

Pleased as ancient car #1 had MOT last week - only needed small works to pass, so total bill was £148, inc. the fee. Not too bad. And best of all was we save monthly into a car fund....which has covered this and the year's tax.....and has a few months to build up again until ancient car #2 goes in....setting up the car fund DD was one of the first things I did when I came over all MSE in autumn '08 ....and it pays off, as cars seem to be the cause of so much debt.....

    Ok. Popping off again now.

  • Managed a whole NS weekend!

Largely as I broke my foot - or rather someone broke it for me, at a party.....

But not as bad as it sounds, as whilst it was initially plastered, the hospital called last night and said that further investigation of the xray had shown it was only a hairline break, so I could have the plaster off.......so I cut it off, and am now much happier...

I was v distressed by not being able to have a shower, hairwash, do anything around the house.....yesterday I sat and watched a whole TV series (I'm in a Rock n Roll Band), an unheard of event in my house.....and read some magazines, finished a book, did my nails....then as soon as the paster was off, scooted (in so far as I could scoot) around, cleaning and tidying and restoring order to my world....

My RBS and final Egg payments have come out of my a/c, and have managed to lock myself out of Virgin temporarily, so will update signature tomorrow to show current status of indebtedness

Hi Mrs R, that sounds painful :o - but you had a lucky escape. Hope you feel ok now.
My Mum broke her foot before Christmas and was in plaster for 9 weeks! She is a very sprightly and glamourous 60 year old and hated being incapacitated.

Glad to hear you are hammering down the debts too - well done!
  • Thanks Macgirl - I like the sound of your mum! When am 60 myself, am aiming to be the most glam 60 ever - though not in a Pauline Prescott kind of a way, more of an Audrey Hepburn! Some years to go yet, so am working on it.....

Ok, so another £400 gone to RBS and signature updated.

Virgin still showing no payment due, and as have set up a DD, just going to wait for that to kick in, as once managed the rare distinction of getting a late fine for paying a Virgin payment early.....they did refund it, but not being too keen to give them anything until I need to this time....and in any event, they're just getting the minimums whilst I clear up the RBS....October here I come.....

BTW, I won three prizes in a raffle on Saturday - a bottle of brandy (destined to sit gathering dust - I do like it, but never drink spirits at home....), a £20 voucher for Game (DS3) and....a rather nice navy blue patent handbag, fastened with a giant wooden button - I have a thing for big buttons, so it was clearly meant for me ....and again it must be thrift karma, as about a month ago I had a delicious navy blue bag in my hand, from TK Max (£22 from £110)...and was queuing up to pay...but then thought how I didn't really need it...and walked away. And now I have a smart new bag after all!

    Counting my blessings

  • Goodness, am just so HAPPY at the mo, I feel I should pinch myself, just to make sure I remember what this feels like! To add to my joy, had my hair cut and coloured the other day....and it looks...incredible! I've had a bob, a short and sharp one, for ever, and now I have a kind of Demi Moore Ghost era type-crop...and it might be my best ever 'do. And whilst I know I really shouldn't do this, I've mad an appointment next month at the Skin clinic, and even though I'm saying it's just for a consultation, I just know am going to have a little light touch of something or other....via my former employer, I can get a 15% discount, and if I scale down my RBS payment for just one month, I can accomodate it in my budget and all will be well. I know I'm spolied, and silly, but I love my life, and just want to go on and on feeling even better whilst I can. So there! Seriously, my mum died at 53, and am going to be 45 myself next month, so want to wring all the juice out of life whilst I'm young and fit - and for me, my appearance is a big part of that. And as it's my BD, and I can pay for it outright, and will inevitably get some money for my BD, I think I can just about justify it. My aim now is to be super frugal for the rest of this month and I reckon I can pay for it, and possiby still take a biggish chunk off RBS next month anyway.

I know this is silly, and probably most annoying for people reading, but I do feel on the cusp of some sort of greatness just now - watch me fly.....!

Great to hear you are feeling fab, Mrs R.

I went to see the Sex in The City 2 movie, and I thought if those 4 ladies can look so fab in their mid forties+, then there is hope for all of us, especially if one's not afraid of a bit of assistance, go fly girl :);).
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Today have made some small progress with a)freelance work and b) the House Mistress idea.

And have been both frugal and clever, as a) fixed my own hoover and b)conjured up some subsitute frozen onions from an ancient pack of casserole veg when I ran out of real ones at DSs tea time.

Also paid £1.29 (!!) off my RBS card to tidy it up to a whole number after the interest was added on - see they add that after you pay, but base it on your highest balance in the period - clever huh? Must call them to check am really only paying 3.9% p.a on RBS, as with a balance of £1665 pre this month's payment, I paid almost £15 in interest. There again, for some of the month my balance was nearer £4k after the first BT from Egg - so will probably just wait and see what it is next time.

Also resisted buying some Juicy Tubes on eBay, though I did buy a song on iTunes, so it's not been a complete NSD. But have played the song about a thousand times already so am def going to get my 79p-worth

Still feeling chipper and raring to go!
