    Hi Mrs R

I'm on a bit of an MSE/using laptop break or I would have posted sooner :(

I'm so sorry to hear about the row & the fact it cast a cloud over the Paris trip. It's nice to hear that you enjoyed it anyway. I'm sure you are a true Parisienne in your heart ;)

Thanks all for recent posts - and look how brilliantly Double Trouble is doing, fantastic strides in that signature!

So...the house is unusually quiet this evening, one DS in bed, one in his room, one off to bed in a mo, the dog is in his basket too, and Mr R is out and am thinking......have just started to regain my equlibrium after the pre-Paris spat.

Well, it was so much more than a spat....we seem to be like this, can get along fine for some months, and then everything just blows up, and then Mr R carries on fairly normally afterwards, and I'm left brooding over it all, hurt and bewildered, and he's onto something else, and it's all supposed to be forgotten.

Perhaps it wouldn't surprise you, then, to know that we married just 8 weeks after meeting? Have always been an impulsive sort, and it seemed right, so we did it....and it is 19 years later....so we must be doing something right mostly, but when something like The Row happens, it kind of shakes my faith.......

But at last, I feel on the mend......and I've so much to look forward to.

We have our new kitchen plan now, which needs a few tweaks, but am hopeful it might be done by my BD in July, and we have the whole summer off, a prospect that fills me with so much joy, it's untrue.

My MIL (who is very well off, and also generous, and very nice too, if a little bossy) is talking of us taking a villa abroad somewhere en famille, as for the first time ever, free of work, we would have the time and space to enjoy it. Which would be so exciting for my DSs, as although we have been profligate on other things (in the past), hot, expensive holidays have never been our thing, we're more a hop-on-the-ferry-and-camp sort of family, so the boys would be beyond themselves if we were to actually fly somewhere (dust and delayed flights schedules will clear by the second week in July, surely?).

And my garden is looking lovely, as I have more time (and this is really Mr R's domain anyway, so he's out there too) and am making a scented area by my patio. And have astroturf (laid last August, also thanks to MIL) so am guaranteed a green lawn, whatever.. it's a true miracle, you sweep it and voila! garden looks instantly groomed. Think will be loving it beyond measure by the end of the summer.

And, in the spirit of trite-ness, in which I specialise, my hair is looking great just now, IISSM. It's a bit lighter, more caramelly, and a bit shorter, and really working for me. And I love all that. Nails also still good. And though have not spoken of "the diet", as have not been, as such, and also have not weighed myself (no scales), think may not be far off the 8.5 st I want to be. I have abs! Well, TBH I often have them, but just now, they really show. Think it's the dog walking, and constant whirl of motion am in, that's helping too. And careful eating. And a little less wine. Oh, and maybe the recent anguish. Yes, there are upsides!

With our various sports, we have a great summer social life, so am looking forward to all that. First cricket evening this week. Which means more opps for me to mildly flirt with fit young first team men (did I really say that?), hurrah!

    Wardrobe looking good too.

And loving the cleaning am doing. Just love making people's homes look good, it's so rewarding.

Finding the "proper" freelance work a bit tedious, but doing it with my business partner, whom I love, so we laugh a lot. And we are taking a risk with a new venture. Not financial risk, more reputational, but we need to push our boundaries.....

And making an application tomorrow for some sporadic but fairly well paid casual work, again with the objective of ensuring I never have to do a regular job again...this again will push boundaries, as will need to drive for up to 45 mins, which is pathetic I know, as have had licence for 18 years but NEVER ACTUALLY DRIVEN ON A MOTORWAY. I drive a lot, but only close to home - have some form of bizarre claustrophobia, where I don't like to go fast, and always need to know there is an exit, so Mways would be a real challenge......

And have a new phone, with 21C things like the internet, so feel born again. And cost me nothing, as Mr R got a new contract and got this one for me for free.....am actually quite excited by this latest development.

Anyway, think you've all had enough of me rambling on. Am not really as up myself as probably sometimes come across, promise. But just pleased to be BACK.

    Hi Mrs R

Long time lurker second time (or is it third) time poster

Loving your latest post, really felt for you with the argument and Paris, I'm the same, takes a while to get over things and I can see how that would put a dampener on Paris. Did you read your Patti Smith book there? I've read Robert Mapplethorpe Biog and she features a lot so would be interesting to read her side of things. Amazing life in NY at the time.

Really glad that things are looking up and that you have fabby summer to look forward to.

I'm moving to a flat in June (first time buy! woohoo!) and can't wait for that first mojito on my tiny balcony! So I share your enthusiasm for this Summer.

Cricket & fit men??? thought they were mutually exclusive -I see I should review my 'hate all sport' policy....
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

Hey make up - thanks so much for the post! Yes. I read and LOVED LOVED LOVED the Patti Smith book. I could have been her (yeah, right). I was so THERE in NY with her, the writing is so real and immediate and absolutely beautiful about her relationship with RM. There's no doubt they were soulmates in every respect except his sexuality, and she was so accepting of this, it's just quite moving to read it. I'd read her biog and was v intrigued by their relationship, and this book sheds so much light on it. Do please read it if you can. Do you have the RM biog. Maybe we can lend them to each other (in an MSE kind of way) - just postage, after all?

And yes, at my cricket club there are some fit young things. But maybe I just got lucky - is a big uni town after all. ;)

In 1984 or maybe 5 I bought my first flat. It was small, but it cost £26k. Imagine! Enjoy yours, it will be really special for you - I've loved all my homes home so much, you have to really make it yours, imbue it with your essence, and you'll remember it for ever......

  • Hey 40SM. We crossed posts! I see from your diary you are small too. Yay to the small ones. We rock. Well, sometimes. When we're not tired. And it's not the wrong time of month. And the chlidren behave. And the dogs. When all those things are aligned, we small ones are powerful.

PS My second BF (hope she doesn't read this, she'll think she's my BF - well, she almost is....) is doing life coach training right now. I could. But I'm a car crash! What do I know?

Rather pleased today, as made a little extra payment to my Egg CC, which will mean that when next week's DD payment is made, will owe £3,999.00, thus attaining sub £4k status, which seems like another hurdle crossed.

Back in Sept. 08, when I began my new and frugal ways, think I owed around £11k all told, plus an OD. By March 09, when I'd really wised up, it was about £9k. And, not counting the RBS CC, as two more payments and it will be gone, am soon to be sub 4k. And no OD (though that was luck, oh and some work as I ploughed some net profits from my v small business into that even before my redundancy payment cleared it for good). Which feels like have come a long way.

Has definitely been a case of slowly-slowly, as after my fixed outgoings, there's not loads left to play with, but by cutting back my personal (and it has to be said, rather frivolous) spending, am getting there.....

    Onwards, upwards etc

Hmm, mixed financial fortunes this week.....got a parking ticket for £70. Boo! Was my own fault and will remind me not to be complacent/cavalier about where I park. Can get 50% off if paying within 14 days, so going to pay it with next week's cleaning money, thus it will never sully my bank a/c. Also got bleach on a very favouite and very new cardigan from Fat Face which was recently half price and a bargainous £25 as is v chunky. If they still have it, am again going to just bite the bullet and replace with my cleaning money too. Annoying, and really bugging me, but there you are. Also my ISA is down on where it should be (we pay into it monthly) and has lost £400 compared to its valuation at year end. Boo again.

On other hand, have no more need to buy any other clothes for summer as the things I bought last month see me totally sorted. Mind you, I did manage to spend about £150 in April on clothes but somehow my budget absorbed it - combination of the cleaning and the pools windfall I think. But now know I need to put a lid on it, so no more.

Again on other hand, bank a/c still looking good and will be making penultimate payment on RBS next week.

Also bought possibly best ever charity shop bargain of a boyfriend blazer...just from Oasis, but nice enough, in great condition. Possibly not snapped up as a size 8, but could tell it was more like a 10 - and lo, it was. And it cost......£1.00!

    Tootle ooo
