EON price protection until may 2011????

Hi Malc
I have noticed on my EON letter that The R1 protection will give me "peace of mind" since, "if standard prices (which seem low compared to duel fuel prices!) fall below today’s level, then my unit prices will too" (although the rate will not fall by the SAME amount!) By making their standard prices low to start with, and with forecasted increases in energy, it would mean their standard unit prices will only go UP. I feel that the R1 price protection offered to me is more a guarantee I give to EON so they are protected by what I pay them.
I found their letter very deceiving in that they quote "Please be aware that because energy prices have increased since you capped your prices, your new prices will be higher than your current ones"
This is not strictly true - the decreases in energy over the past 18 months have far outweighed the increase it is just because they have not given the benefits of this to their customers.
Unfortunately all the big companies seem to be offering the same poor deal so I have decided to go to a smaller company that charges me more (believe it or not) just to give them a chance to catch up on the big boys.
Thanks anyway0 -
Hi TIGs
The letter you have received is an offer to leave your account on protected prices once your current arrangement ends. In essence, it is the nearest tariff to your existing plan we have available at the moment.
However, it is not the cheapest and you don't have to go on this. It may be protected prices are no longer for you.
I would put your usage on one of the comparison sites and see how we do.
Just a heads up. We don't give discount on final bills when you change supplier. Therefore, should you decide to move away from us it is best to time the switch to minimise the impact of this.
Also, if we don't hear from you, the account will automatically go on to the new R3 deal. Even if this does happen, you will still be able to move off this tariff at any time without having to pay an exit fee; just the loss of discount mentioned above if you change supplier.
Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need any more info. Glad to help.

I knew all that Malc thanks, i just didn't expect my monthly direct debt to go up so much. I spoke to a lovely lady on the phone who sorted it for me and swapped me onto a different deal. Infact i was so impressed i wrote to your complaints department to tell them what an credit she is to your company :money:0 -
Hi TIGs
Many thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to write to the complaints team. This is very much appreciated.

Because I am on EDF's V5 tariff I checked it online yesterday, only to find it has disappeared from their website, which probably makes it a "defunct" tariff. It will take a few days for the Switch sites to catch up with this, so till then thier figures on V5 should be treated with caution.0
