EON price protection until may 2011????
I am currently with EON price protection which ends on 1st October.
I have had a letter from them advising me to stay with htem and go onto their Price protection R3 deal which will keep my costs capped till May 2011.
Anyone know of any better deals at the moment??

I was on the same capped deal which is due to end and would be automatically moved to the new price fix until March 2011 (on the Price Protection R1 for me), however using three different comparison sites it came back with EDF's Online Tariff V5 as cheaper on all three sites for me. May vary by location though. I was reading somewhere though that energy prices are expected to fall in the next 12 months which would mean bigger profits for EON. I've already completed the online forms to change and will be moving from EON. Remember to go via a cashback site if you do as with EDF there's £60 cashback up for grabs.
All the best ..

I'm just trawling through the comparisons and would like to know pros and cons. I'm a fairly high user (but smallish home), currently on Eon Price Protection E7 which is due to end. I've been offered R1, which looking at the discussions doesn't seem to be a good tariff.
Putting the figures into Energyhelpline a number of possibilities come up. If I were to stay with Eon, the best deals appear to be Saveonline, or Saveonline with no standing charges for an unfixed deal or E.ON - FixOnline NSC v3 (until Dec 2010).
Thanks
Would I be best on a deal with a standing charge and lower unit rate (probably I think).. and what of the pros and cons of fixed rates?somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -

Hi TIGs
The letter you have received is an offer to leave your account on protected prices once your current arrangement ends. In essence, it is the nearest tariff to your existing plan we have available at the moment.
However, it is not the cheapest and you don't have to go on this. It may be protected prices are no longer for you.
I would put your usage on one of the comparison sites and see how we do.
Just a heads up. We don't give discount on final bills when you change supplier. Therefore, should you decide to move away from us it is best to time the switch to minimise the impact of this.
Also, if we don't hear from you, the account will automatically go on to the new R3 deal. Even if this does happen, you will still be able to move off this tariff at any time without having to pay an exit fee; just the loss of discount mentioned above if you change supplier.
Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need any more info. Glad to help.

Hi Rob - EDF seems to coming out tops for me too - can you tell me which cashback site you've gone through? i guess £60 cashback more than outweighs the fact i will lose the discount on my last eon bill.cheers.0 -

I'm doing the same as robbsafc...I was on EON Price Protection but did a comparison as that's coming to an end and EDF Online v5 is cheapest so I'm moving.0

katym79 Either Quidco (£60 at time of writing) or Cashback Kings were doing £60. Just have a look at posts on MSE for details on Cashback websites. I just used several comparison sites and they came back with EDF for me, and the deal is only until July 2010 so hopefully prices will have dropped and then I can change to a better deal then.

Hi pandora
Sorry for the delay replying; I must have missed your post.
The product you are now on protected you against any price increases until 1 October 2009. Therefore, you will have been paying the same prices for up to two years depending on the tariff and when you signed up. These will be significantly lower than current prices.
The proposed R1 replacement is another price protection tariff guaranteeing not to increase prices until 2011. As with most of our protected deals this tariff carries an initial premium.
The R1 is, therefore, not the cheapest tariff and it may be protected prices are no longer for you.
You are doing exactly the right thing in having a look at the comparison sites. Make sure you choose the deal which is best for you.
There is very little difference between our Standing Charge and No Standing Charge Save Online tariffs. The Standing Charge is offered at the request of customers who prefer a daily charge and a single unit rate rather than the two tier primary and secondary rates.
With Save Online, the discount is guaranteed until 1 October 2010 but prices may change.
The Fixonline 3 tariff does not have a Standing Charge version. Unit prices here are the same as Save Online but with higher discount. This product fixes prices until 1 December 2010 but also carries an exit fee.
Fixonline 3 is different from the price protection deals, in that, prices will not go up or down. Price protection deals will not increase prices during the term of the contract but will reduce them if our standard rates come down.
As I posted earlier, please be aware if you decide to change suppliers we don't give discounts on the final bill. Therefore, it is best to time a switch to keep this loss to a minimum.
Hope this answers your questions pandora but give me a shout if you need more help. I promise not to miss your post next time.

Just for info - I'm holding off any capping till I see what way the market moves, but have switched to E.on's Save Online - one reason for staying with e.on is their customer support - not only do they post here, but when I switched it took a grand total of 1 minute 22 seconds and that was a few minutes ago, so not even a very quiet time - no menus, no long waits, the majority of that time was the security validation that we all have to do everywhere these days.
