Malc, presumably the exit fee only applies (with Fixonline) for switching before Dec 2010? And just to clarify please, I see the features of the tariff mention reading my own meter, is this compulsory or just an option?

Hi pandora
Yes, that's right. The exit fee only applies on Fixonline 3 if you were to change supplier before the product end date on 1 December 2010.
Also, it's not compulsory to read your own meter. Whilst it always helps to make sure bills are accurate, you will not be penalised if you don't enter readings online.
We have a duty to read meters and will continue to do this on a regular basis even if you do enter readings online yourself.
Hope this helps. Give me a shout if I can help further.

I too am being told that as of 1st October I'm moving to the Price Protection R3 deal. I don't think I'm being blind but I can't see this one on the comparison sites?
Also is there a penalty if I move before October 1st? (I can't remember if I was tied into this with a penalty for leaving early).
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mr_J
Depends which tariff you are currently on, Price Protection or Energy Saver. The former do not have exit fees but the latter do. Although, given the time taken to switch, it is academic really as it will be well past 1 October before the switch completes if started today.
The R3 tariff is another capped product but without an exit fee. As with most of our capped products, prices are initially higher than standard rates but are guaranteed not to increase before 2011.
R3 is not, therefore, our cheapest current product and you don't have to go on to this. It may be protected prices are no longer for you.
You are doing exactly the right thing in looking at the alternatives via the comparison sites.
At the moment I am afraid you will have to manually calculate what the R3 tariff will cost as it is not on the comparison sites yet. I have spoken to one of the main sites and there are plans to include it in the future.
Please be aware, if you decide to change supplier, we don't give discount on final bills so it will be advisable to time the move to lessen the impact of this.
Also, you will automatically be put on the R3 tariff unless you tell us otherwise. Therefore, if you're changing supplier, it will benefit you to go on to one of our cheaper tariffs during the changeover period.
Switches can take anything up to 8 weeks to complete so changing tariff during this period might save you a fair bit. It is easy to do. Either call us or change yourself through our website. The switch will go through immediately.
Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need any more info. Always happy to help.

I have contacted yourselves to be switched from Price prot v14 to Fixonlinev3 as from October 1st.
I understand there is an exit fee if i change supplier but i have been told that if prices drop then i can go onto a cheaper EON tariff without penalty.
Is that correct, and if so wheres the catch?. If this is the case surely this is the best deal for most of us as the prices aren't much higher than my current deal.
Im just a little confused. Why should anyone want price protection at a higher rate than Fixonline??0 -

No catch Inforapennyinforapound. You can transfer to another tariff without paying an exit fee.
The new Price Protection tariffs (R1, R2 and R3) guarantee prices will not increase before the middle of 2011. However, FixOnline 3 only guarantees up to 1 December 2010.
Hope this clears up the confusion. Give me a shout if I can help further.

Hi,
I am confused. I am due shortly to be transferred from my current Price Protection deal to Price Protection R1 deal with E-on. Friday evening I spoke to a representative for E-on about options available. He mentioned Save On Line tariff and went through the details. One of the details was do I want to register as dual fuel. I mentioned that my Gas supplier was British Gas and was on a contract till 2010 with them so I couldn't. So he carried on informing me of the details and prices of the tariff for Save On Line for electricity only. I said ok and will think about it. On Saturday afternoon I phoned E-on again with the intention of going ahead but the representative said that the Save On Line is available for Dual Fuel only so I can't transfer to it.
Can you please inform me what is correct. Can I transfer to Save On Line for electricity only or is it for Duel Fuel customers only.
Thank you.0 -
As with other posters, my tariff will automatically move to the e-on R1 from 1 October and whilst I understand that prices will not increase until 2011, what I can't find out is whether I am 'locked in' to this tariff until 2011 should I not actively move to a different one. I am doing a price comparison at the moment and will probably move to a different provider but I need to know whether I need to get in touch with e-on before 1 October to temporarily move to another deal with them that I can get out of without paying a penalty.0

I was on the same capped deal which is due to end and would be automatically moved to the new price fix until March 2011 (on the Price Protection R1 for me), however using three different comparison sites it came back with EDF's Online Tariff V5 as cheaper on all three sites for me. May vary by location though. I was reading somewhere though that energy prices are expected to fall in the next 12 months which would mean bigger profits for EON. I've already completed the online forms to change and will be moving from EON. Remember to go via a cashback site if you do as with EDF there's £60 cashback up for grabs.
All the best ..
Rob
Thanks for that Rob.
Im in the same situation, Im on Price Protection 17 and being moved to R3.
If I stick with EON I'll be moving to FixOnline 3.
Anyone got any suggestions along the same lines as Rob?0 -

Malc,
I've just received Ts & Cs for 'FixOnline' plan and Item 20 says:
"We may charge a cancellation fee as out in your confirmation letter if:
- you transfer your gas and/or electricity to another supplier;
- you transfer your gas and/or electricity to another E.O.N plan;
- you move home and do not continue with your FixOnline plan if available."
The condition which I have underlined above, seems to contradict what you have advised in respect of exit fees for transferring tariffs. Please could you clarify?
Thanks a lot0 -
Before you decideon tariff find out if E7 rates are worth it, if you use less than 35-40% in your night time rates, then 1 rate billing will save you money, does not require change of meter just unit rates applied to bill. also beware fixed rates, while the saving is great it is FIXED, if prices go up you're making out, but if prices go down you're better off on a variable tariff like saveonline.pandora205 wrote: »I'm just trawling through the comparisons and would like to know pros and cons. I'm a fairly high user (but smallish home), currently on Eon Price Protection E7 which is due to end. I've been offered R1, which looking at the discussions doesn't seem to be a good tariff.
Putting the figures into Energyhelpline a number of possibilities come up. If I were to stay with Eon, the best deals appear to be Saveonline, or Saveonline with no standing charges for an unfixed deal or E.ON - FixOnline NSC v3 (until Dec 2010).
Thanks
Would I be best on a deal with a standing charge and lower unit rate (probably I think).. and what of the pros and cons of fixed rates?0
