Hi, i have been down recently but not as bad as i used to be but doctor has given me prozac (sp) to try.
DVLA told me they had to be informed of any illness including bipolar, and that they need to do some checks and see how we are by filling in a medical questionnaire, so yes in the short term you do have to stop driving otherwise if caught you get a fine and poss loose your license. Is a Bipolar bear0 -
*raises hand and joins thread* Didn't see this place before. I'm a rapid-cycler with psychotic features. Currently not undergoing any psychiatric treatment - the waiting list is horrendous here. Somehow I am getting by with it and controlling where I can... I have physical disabilities that make me unable to work, too, so focusing on balancing everything out.
They gave me temazepam to try to calm my muscle spasms a few weeks ago, and it sent me completely manic. It's stuff like that that is so frustrating... One thing affects another, etc.Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0 -
Hi Trialia i would go back to your GP i was sent through as an urgent case as i was manic at the time and was a threat to myself and others, i struggle talking to my GP just because i get upset about it, write down how you are when manic and depressed and see if they can hurry you through, i ended up with an appointment a week later as my GP was so worried.
hope your ok xIs a Bipolar bear0 -

Could I join you guys too please?... i wont post my story yet, until i've had some time to think as my story is rather long and will take lots of reading, if thats ok? I've 'most likely' got a mix of type 1 and type 2 bipolar but have other problems too, I am very down about it at the moment and struggling in every way0

Evening guys, and hello louisebt, welcome to our little bipolar world! :T
Thought I'd report on the new psych that I saw today, because I really don't know whether to laugh and cry (and have done both since the appt!).
According to the psych the good news is that bipolar is completely curable ... what?!?!?!? Then he went on to say that it is, as long as you stay on medication ... is it just me or does that not mean you are cured, but rather that your condition is managed? I suggested this to him, but he just kept saying 'Yes, yes ... cured!'.
He then told me that my condition should be easy to manage because I was intelligent. Therefore I am not a priority for treatment. So it seems that the lesson for today is, if you want treatment, act stupid!
To top it all off, he informed me that there are people that are much worse than me. Yes, I am well aware of that fact ... but that doesn't mean that I am not feeling like cr*p.
I have a lot of respect for psychiatrists, but this man summed up the word quack. Not a happy bunny.
Will stop ranting now!

I agree with it being manageable with medication but not cured.
He sounds a bit...hm...how to put it nicely...well I'm sure you can imagine what I'm thinking. :rotfl:
I hope nobody minds me posting here. I don't have bi-polar but I have a personality disorder that has similarities so there may be certain aspects I can help and support with.:o2019 Wins
