Have spoken to the LA. I wont go into too much detail but basically the mortgage lender have point blank refused to write off the shortfall. The LA found the person they spoke to, un-cooperative and gave the LA the impression they are not fully familiar with our file or situation. Apparently they kept saying the debt would become an unsecured loan and they can pursue us for it.

So, we discussed the option of me going to my local Member of Parliament to hopefully take up the case. The LA then rang the mortgage co back to ask them for senior management contact details and told them we will be speaking to our MP and asking him to become involved.

Suddenly the un-cooperative person has now decided to 'look' at our file more closely ;) and has requested all our paperwork to be sent to him today. I will be speaking to the LA on Monday to discuss the outcome.

Hmmm....whats going to happen? Im worrying. I have never dealt with an MP before, how will I know if they agree with my predicament? What if they dont want to get involved? Do they have a choice in things like this? I might not need to go that far anyway, lets hope the lender, once they have thoroughly looked at our file, will agree its the best solution all round.

Been thinking all night about Bats words and a back up plan. I will post later about that, in case someone has some advice for me :o
  • Whats going to happen?, hopefully now it will dawn on them that whichever way this goes, they lose, and let things go ahead to get the best return.

We can but hope they do anyway, as they will look stupid if they dont, so lets hope there is someone with some commen sense at the ML;)

O Angie........ I hope things do work out ok.

I think writing to the MP is a great thing to do - maybe hand delivery the letter to his surgery and maybe see him face to face????

Wish had more help or advice for you

MP's want to be seen to be doing 'good' things. I don't think they will care whether or not they agree persoanlly with your predicament, they will want to use your situation to help themselves as well as you, which can only be a good thing for you.

If they get involved it will look good for them 'doing their bit in these terrible times' etc, etc, and you (fingers and everything else crossed too!) will get what you want out of it too... shortfall written off.

Hang in there.... it's not over yet hun xxx

    The fight continues....
I guess you knew and we knew it could go on longer. Sigh - why don't they appreciate what it's like in the real world.
Strange how the mention of the MP made them buck their ideas up isn't it :) I'm sure your MP will help you - otherwise you'll make them look bad as well. MP's are meant to be there to help people.
Good Luck - i hope they get back to you today even if it's just to say 'computer says no' - at least then you can crack on with the getting the MP involved.
Good Luck - we're all behind you.

    Angie,

It's just a thought - when you meet your MP - it might help if you have already "drafted" the letter that you would like them to send.

It'll safe time and ensure that the MP writes exactly what you need them to say.

I think the MP will usually write on the "House of Commons" letterhead - (it'll be worth asking that they do - and not the constintuency address) - because it might make a big difference.

Also if you could get the name of the Chief Executive of the lender and get the MP to write directly to them - that too should help.
