Have you turned the heating on yet - 2009?

This time last year Tyllwyd had a great poll to see whether or not people had turned their heating on yet. In the interest of science, the credit crunch and to help us up here in freezing Scotland stay strong a little longer, I'd like to propose we ask exactly the same questions again.

Are we holding out longer because we're all a bit more skint, have the fuel price cuts (!!) tempted us to switch on, do we think it's simply warmer or colder than last year? Your vote and thoughts would be appreciated.

Our family is digging out vests and fleeces and counting down 'til October the 1st, our official "lets give in and have some heat day".

Last year I was pregnant and too hot, so I kept the heating off until November while the rest of the family moaned and froze. This year.. um, I did put it on the other day for an hour because I was chilled to the bone and not even a hot bath and a duvet on the sofa could warm me.

it's not gone on since and I'd like to make it until october until it's on all the time.

  • Well, since the Housing Association fitted me a uPVC front door my house has been toasty warm for the first time EVER, so I will be holding out for as long as possible, I have one of those wall clocks that tells you the temperature and it says its 22 at the moment, which feels good to me!

its still too hot to wear socks and the windows are all open. There have been a couple of windy days but its eased off now - no need for heating just a cardi in the evening. Normally I say i hold out for as long as poss normally nov but tbh i'm not holding out right now its just not cold (I'm in the south east so will admit that scotland is probably a whole different kettle of fish, but you are not the only person who has mentioned heating).

Far too warm for heating at the moment!

First the windows will be moved to the slightly open locked position or closed if cold, then I have to decide to go from Summer to Winter quilt, next the autumn/winter clothes, heating will be the last resort.

    OK, I confess

Our heating has not been put on regularly or on timer yet, but it has been on for about 2 hours on a couple of nights. On the other hand, the windows are open during the day if we're in - it just seems to get really cold at about 6 o'clock.

i admit i have put mine on for 30 mins to dry dd's coat the other day it was cold and wet and she had to go out! I don't have a tumble dryer to i recon it is cheaper to have it on for 30 mins then buy a tumble dryer and use electric!!

I am going to leave it as long as possible our hot water bottles have been out a few times!!
