  • Hi all,

Please please please can I join in too?

I have been biting my nails all my life, many photos of me as a child with my fingers in my mouth. I have tried everything - stick on nails, welded on ones, manicures, will-power, hypnotism tapes, paint on stuff, etc etc and have stopped for upwards of 12 months at different times.

My biting is currently even worse than ever. I have no idea why. I bite them when I am bored, watching tv, in a traffic jam, on the computer - you name it! I wonder if I bite in my sleep too! One of my lower front teeth chipped and I know its down to the biting.

When I was working, I used to wear false nails practically all the time and when I took them off to give my poor nails a breather - I would bite them again. Now they are so low, I doubt false ones would even stick!

As you are doing so well I am wondering if a support network might be the way to go for me too?!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Welcome Angela! It's worth a try to come and post on here!

I've made it to 4 and a half weeks so far, and - woohooo one of my nails is now past the end of my finger! :T But I'm gonna have to file it level again I think because it's REALLY doing my head in. How people cope with these huge nails I do not know. it keeps catching on everything!

Fernliebee thats inteesting about the cuticles, I never realised! I've never had those sore bumpos in all my years of biting though Jojo - must have been lucky! Although I've always bitten my nails to death, never really been one for picking at the skin around them.

Hope you are all still doing well!

    xx
Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o
  • Hiya Angela - welcome! I found that I gradually got used to having longer nails, but at first, they drove me crazy.

Just a quick visit, so night night to all x

My new mini file arrived today, but I haven't had it out of the packet yet. It will definitely go on holiday with me!

Angela, I don't know about biting in my sleep, but I know that one reason I used to bite was that my nails were catching on my brushed nylon nightie. I'm sure you're not wearing brushed nylon in bed (whose idea WAS that?) but it might be worth making sure they're as smooth as you can get them each night.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Well...i've made it a week then :)

Progress is as follows ..... on both hands its my thumb and first finger which haven't grown much and are yukky. The other three look okay just a little short.

I will keep moisturising and trying to resist! I'm finding though that instead of biting im now just OCD with the cleaning of them ;)

Hope everyone is doing ok :)

Same here! People at work must think I'm so vain about my nails!

Welcome, Angela and myothercarisaferrari - we'll help you get that £10!

I think I'm going to promise myself a manicure in mid-October if I haven't bitten my nails by then. I've never had one before because my nails have always been so short and I've been embarrassed of them. So should give me something to look forward to and aim for!
