  • so when do you think i will start seeing "proper" results - as in how long will it be before they grow to the tip? 4 weeks? im trying keep putting on the strenghening solution on - hope it works!
  • Thanks Jojo - I've been inspired by the picture of your nails, they look really nice. I doubt I'll ever get mine that long but it's something to keep aiming for!

Mommyme - I've read that nails grow about half a centimetre in 3 weeks - if that's right, it shouldn't take long at all for us to all have lovely long nails (if we all stop biting!). I don't know how accurate that is though - half a cm seems like quite a lot! I'd imagine you have to have really well looked after nails and be overdosing on calcium to achieve that!

  • Im screwed then - i dont have a thyroid lol
  • You should start feeling chuffed in a week, but to get them longer, I would give it until mid October, just because it takes so long to recover from the damage...

I put a few things in my first post about what to expect - things that nobody told me - but week two is the one where you are most likely to start wondering when they will get better, then you realise it's week 3, you've forgotten about your nails other than when looking after them and they are looking tons better!

According to various sources on t'interweb, 1mm a week is normal. Which means that you could be asking for nail products and jewellery from everyone for Christmas!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yeah, I found after about 2 weeks they started to look a bit better. They grew in funny shapes thought because of the jagged edges that I had last bitten, and I had a hard time stopping myself from biting when I filed them because of the soft edges that it leaves!

    Well done Alizarin!!

  • Hi all,

Can I join please? I have horrific nails, managed to grow one pinky nail for a few weeks, but it... um... disappeared the other night :o

I've been a biter for as long as I can remember, and I'm now 24.

I can't use the foul tasting stuff as I work with food, so it's ounces of willpower for me, I just have to find it!

(And yes, before anyone says it - I rarely bite at work, and whether I do or not, I wash my hands thoroughly a lot and sanitise)

I also keep losing willpower with my tootsies, although I can't (and wouldn't want to) bite those!

Well done everyone on your growth so far!!

Well done all you non biters, you are doing really well. Keep it going, if you've been stopped for three days thats excellent. In another couple of days (if not sooner) you will start to feel a smooth edge appearing, then its only a matter of time!

It's been 4 WEEKS TODAY that I haven't bitten mine but I would still class myself as a biter because I still get the urge! Still waiting for that feeling to pass where I catch myself getting ready to bite.

Never tried Estee Lauder, Sally Hansen products are supposed to be good though, and I did see that collection 2000 sell a cheap 'growth promoter' to be used under nail varnish etc. Not sure how good that one is though.
