Hi everyone - sorry i disappeared - was my littles ones birthday yesterday and we had a party. I am now a non-chewee for TWO WHOLE DAYS (ok so it isnt much of an achievement for some but a big one for me!) Ive noticed ive started playing with my lips now tho! more noticeable than biting so i can eaily realise and stop!
I put some strenghner on last night and today ive put some light pink nail polish on with added iron to help them, as well as my Sally Henson nail biting solution.
The Boots Stop and Grow was the stuff i used last time when i DID manage to grow them but found it less effective this time.
Heres a pic of my horrid nails!!! URGH
Now just have to stop DD from picking her nose! she copied a brat @ nursery!!!0 -
just another quickie message - when will i need to buy a nail file? obviously not got enough to file yet and where can i find a cheapish crystal one - i know they last a life time but im MSE'ing lol0

I stopped chewing my nails when I was about 22 (about 4 years ago.) I had that common problem where I had really weak nails, one would break and then I'd 'have' to nibble the rest to make them even.
These were the things that helped me. 1) Sitting on my hands when I felt the urge to nibble (somehow don't seem quite so appetising after that! Lol!)
2) Every time I bathed or showered I would push back the cuticle and this made them grow really strong so they didn't break anymore.
3) learnt how to do a proper manicure myself, from a friend who went to college to learn, and this meant I could massage my hands (improved blood flow and strengthens nails) and apply nail varnish in a french manicure so my newly long nails looked lovely and I wouldn't want to ruin them by biting.
I now have fairly long nails that are super strong and very rarely break, if they do I cut them all down to the length of the broken one as they are now so healthy they grow back in about a week or two.
Keep up the hard work, it is sooooo worth it!! I quit biting my cuticles/ whitlows by putting tea tree oil on them. This not only tastes foul, but helps heal them and stops them getting infected! Bonus!0 -
I've also been on the wagon for 2 days without nibbling, haven't even wanted to!
The stop 'n' grow is good that it doesn't wash off after you've washed your hands, only after a shower. Dreading eating a bag of crisps, won't be able to lick my fingers
Going to post a pic soon of how disgusting they are:eek:
I don't think I'll be tempted once there at a nice stage as I only bite when my nails are rough and catchy:rolleyes:
Fab nails JoJo, can't wait to have my first manicure0 -
This looks good to keep on a keyring:

Well done, all new non nibblers! Crystal files are cheap in Superdrugs or Boots. They are really good for the tiny, tiny little nicks in the sides of the nails as they are growing for the first time, and if you catch one, filing it at a slant immediately can prevent you from biting it down and down until it is back where you started. You can cut/clip it once you are calmer/in the evening, or leave it to grow a little more.
I've ended up drumming my nails when I'm stressed, rather than biting them. It probably irritates everyone within a ten mile radius, but at least my hands look good whilst I am annoying them!
Keep it up people - you're doing great!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Well done you two day people! Glad it's going well! I just use an ordinary file but I stick to the less coarse side. I do make sure that I moisturise my hands and nails often though, again another trick because it doesn't taste very nice but it's also good for them.
JoJo your nails are fab! I like the idea of the silver half moon, my friend always has hers really 'done' but like you say hers are fake, not nice and real like yours! I think having a stumpy support thread is an excellent idea! I'll try and take a photo of mine soon to put on, nowhere close to as far along as yours but MILES better than they used to be. I had nothing there!
Fernliebee, is that what the cuticle thing does then? Strengthen your nails? I thought it was just a looks thing, how does it actually work do you know?
xxThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -

Ive been bad - i had a litte nibble of my thumb about 5 minutes ago but LUCKILY i noticed straight away, havent atually bit anything off yet and slapped some more nasty nail stuff on and thought id come on here and type before i try and bite any more!! Ive just ordered the key ring fole thingy - im going to buy a crystal one soon but i dont need it yet and would probably forget to carry it around, so the keyring one is ideal, shove on my car keys as im never without those!
Hope the "other" non chewee is getting on well - cant memeber who it was now tho!0
