Please can I join? My nails are a disgrace, v badly bitten, usually when I'm upset, but I often bite them unconsciously. Have tried horrid nail bite stuff, which does help, but I never seem to keep to it. I feel ashamed at work sometimes, especially when I see people with lovely nails.

I made repeated attempts to stop before I actually managed to, I'd always carried on and ignored the nasty taste of the anti-biting polish I'd put on. I think it was the extra willpower from a sudden "I'll turn 20 this year, I must become an adult and grow my nails" thought I had, and the photographing of my nails as they grew that really helped me.0

I'm such an IDIOT!!! Just typed out a whole long post, then forgot to press the 'post' button! So, here goes again...
Welcome to our little club Katie, give it a good try again... The first time I tried to stop I used the nasty tasting stuff, then when I got used to it I just thought stuff it it doesn't work, and bit them anyway. This time I've used much more willpower and used it as a reminder that my nails are where they shouldn't be! It gets much easier as soon as you start to see an edge developing, you can see the progress then.
It's be 4 weeks on Friday for me and I'm so pleased I've got this far. I used to feel embarrassed as because I'm a design and technology teacher, I'm often demonstrating things and pointing things out on students work, and I'd feel disgusted by my shabby nails. Some of the kids have actually noticed that I've stopped and they keep giving me encouragement! I had my hands near my mouth the other day and one girl warned me not to bite 'because you want your nails to be lovely not bitten stumps don't you miss' hehe

Well done and welcome!
mommyme, brilliant idea to change what you were doing straight away :T:T, katie I think everyone who has stopped biting them has tried tons and tons of times before - the key is to keep trying and, one day, it will be right and you will stop. Silaqi, I think you are spot on, the nasty tasting stuff isn't actually to force you to stop biting, it is to bring it to your attention that you are doing it.
Even ten minutes not biting is ten minutes without injuring yourself! (unless you've come out to shout at cats for staging massed drag races down your hallway and you've whacked your foot on the bedroom door as you have done so). Anyone want a few guilty looking cats?
Well, I'm off to bed again now - I've had enough and I can't enter the cats for Santa Pod until next year - so :T:T:T to everyone, and I'll probably see you tomorrow!
Oooh, for those interested, QVC are flogging OPI nail products tomorrow (Thursday) at 4pm. Nail Envy normally retails at about £16.50 in Boots and the lacquers about £9.50 on t'interweb, so keep an eye on their prices!
xxxI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Cant have the cats - i dont like them and my dog would probably go nuts lol
Im at work when QVC is oncan you still buy from their website? maybe i can look when im @ work hehehe
Its going to be a testing day for me today . . My LO has moved up a room in Nursery so am worried about how she will get on - I know she'll be fine, she was laughing and playing with her old friends (they moved up before her) but still a worry!
Must not bite must not bite - My diet has now gone to pot btw, DD has party food left over so maybe my chant should be:
Must not bite, Must not munch . . .0 -
Yes, mommyme, you can go through to the QVC website - I think if I had been able to do shopping whilst I was at work, I would never have got anything done!
I know they are rather worthy, but carrot sticks are the nearest thing I can think of to nails, and they aren't fattening. I know it's normally a waste of cash when you could do it yourself, but I think a bag of ready cut carrot batons is a worthwhile purchase in these circumstances!
Nursery will be fine - it's us Mums who are left in quivering wrecks, not the kids who will (if they even glance in our direction) be wondering 'what's she pulling a funny face for?' and then dash off to join their friends!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I haven't bitten my nails for 36 hours now - and I put on some nail strengthening nail varnish and haven't chewed that off, which is another bad habit I must stop. So feeling quite pleased with myself today
I've found in the past that the yucky tasting stuff doesn't work for me (I just ignore it and chew anyway), but I've been using lots of hand cream around my nail areas whebever I find my fingers near my mouth. It seems to be working!:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:
