How strange....I have only just found this thread but I went "cold turkey" on my nails on Monday. I have biten them for as long as I can remember but I haven't bit them since I quit.
Now I just look at them and realise how dirty they are! But at least I'm not wanting to bite them now
So...i'll join in please?!?DFW Nerd #11520 -
Babyhead, I thought that - it's the one thing that puts me off stopping biting them, they seem to be dirty all the time - my old bitten nails were never dirty! I know thats because it was all in my mouth, but still!
Well done though!

Haven't touched them in 3 days now :T
Today I've noticed the skin on the edges are starting to get thick and I'd normally bite these off, started to get tempted to pick at the thin bits of growth, so now it's when the will power kicks in.
Can't wait to have nice nails yay0 -
urgh ive started to nibble sides of my fingers now! OH is REALLY grinding at my nerves tonight and its either bite the side of my skin or knife him! Havent bit harshly and stopped when i started but still!!! Stupid girl @ work too - shes very unethically sh***ng the m.d so doesnt do anything AT ALL at work - shes annoyed me today to. Cant say anything or ill risk getting sacked - doubt it would hold at a tribunial though!
I think i remember seeing some "toys" you can play with when you quit smoking, its supposed to keep your hands busy. Wonder if i can find one for free? hmmm might have a look on new leaf website lol0 -

Mommyme, don't do it! Handcream handcream handcream, slather them in handcream and push your cuticles back - don't nibble anything even the skin because you are trying to break that habit! Put clear nail varnish on too because that way you can;t nibble or you get a mouthful of nail varnish. If you keep getting the urge, put another coat on!

Amazing - I go AWOL so that nobody notices just how much I've spent on nail products this week, and when I come back you're mobhanded?
Hello new peeps!
Naughtie is it possible for you to wear gloves for food prep? I've seen quite a few people doing it in various serving/preparing jobs. The same principle applies if your toes are picked - wear socks at all times - DD2 had to do this for 3 months and now her toes are quite nice.
Babyhead I found exactly the same thing - my nails got so dirty. As the nail bed begins to heal, the nail fixes closer to it and less crud gets caught underneath, but I used lots of sanitiser gels and scrubbed under them regularly. If they still look a bit yellowy, denture tablets in warm water and soaked for a manicure, does exactly the same job as the £4 nail whitening tablet packs of 6, but you get about 20 tablets of Steradent for £1.
Sahra and Mommyme Stop! The thickened skin is part of the healing process - apply moisturiser and STEP AWAY FROM THE DIGITS MA'AM!
Let the worry go - you can't change anything by hurting yourself (although I can sympathise with the wanting to injure an annoying significant other) - no point in it. Put moisturiser (and maybe cotton gloves) on and, if necessary, plan a Wolverine-style revenge with your new talons
But anyway - :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T on another day!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

My nail file gadget has dispatched from Amazon so I'll let you all know how I get on with it, although I'm off for a week soon so don't panic if it takes a while.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

OOOH mine came yesterday - but i cant work out which file is for what lol
I went to bed last night after posting so i couldnt bite lol Havent knifed the OH . . . yet! It was his turn to get up with DD today but when i woke him up to tell him she was up and asked if he was getting up he mumbled no and went back to bed so i had to drag my butt up - was good in a way though, i got to post an ebay item for some one lol Im going to an ex colleagues wedding reception today - the OTHER colleague who is erm . . . being unprofessional is going too so i better not have any drinks or i might say something i regret later.
Havent bite my nails so far today so this makes it day 4I havent put my nasty nail stuff on yet but i will do later when i get the urge. I havent got any cuticles left so cant push them down to keep me occupied lol
Has anyone heard of the miricule nail stuff then?
Will post a pic next week of my nails, see if we can see a differenceHave a nice weekend everyone!

Cheers everyone! Still no biting yet.
My DH is off out to shop so i've asked him to pick up some sterident for me so he thinks i'm crazy now....lol
I've got lots of stop nail biting products from my failed previous attempts to stop biting and clearly they didn't work!
This time i'm not using anything but hand cream and it works better IMO and its good for your nails
I'm struggling today as keep catching myself looking at them. MUST NOT BITE. Have a good weekend everyone and keep up the not biting!DFW Nerd #11520
