Wedding venue problems - want to cancel.

He's no stranger to it!! Google "<venue name> solicitor's journal" - top result should be a report on a case in June 2008 where a couple who had held their wedding there were awarded over £4,000 compensation after the event over a number of complaints about the day (detailed in the article). That included a £1,000 cost order after he failed to show up at the court hearing!! (If you feel this paragraph gives away too much info about the venue then holler and I'll delete it)

If he's been running weddings for years I think the business will have enough cash or assets in it for the current claimants. It's not like it's a new start-up. I think you'll be fine.

I just hope this hasn't put you off organising a wedding for life. This is one complete low-life you've had the awful misfortune of crossing paths with. There are hundreds of decent wedding venues out there that could give you a truly magical day and I hope you get that in the end.

aww becks i hope that you get the money back ok and that these other people havent sued for too much. You would think 1 person sueing would be a wake up call not upwards of 3!

Thanks Sarah - just googled it and found it, thanks. I think I read about that court appearance (or lack of!) somewhere else a while ago. Funny enough the claimants then come from the same part of the world as me.

In a way, reading other peoples experience and hearing we are not the only ones is a little reassuring but I still do not get it. How can he still be in business as we are not just a one off. I know we have done the right thing as I could not even consider getting married somewhere owned by this man but at times I have wondered if maybe we gave him enough chances to rectify the situation (in my heart, I know we did but I also know I am stubborn and once I make my mind up, thats it!!!)

I really dont get why there hasnt been more negtive publicity about the venue, if there had then maybe we wouldnt be going through what we are now. To me, it just doesnt make sense. Maybe, it is going to be down to us to try and change this ...... who knows!!!

I hope all of you who have sued him, get your money back as soon as possible ~ how he has the nerve to keep on holding weddings there, I don't know!

Well, even if he does 100 weddings a year (and it's probably more) then he's taking, I don't know, £800k? Not everyone would see complaints through like you have; with a handful of payouts required he's still raking it in. It's obviously just about the money; from the reviews he doesn't do it for the love of it!

I dont think he does 100 or more weddings a year - more likely less around 40-60 which seems to be pretty average.

He gets business by being nice to people at first and charming them into parting with cash - some of the comments on Tripadvisor have been about food which was no where near the quality of that served up for the taster menu and not as ordered. Unfortunately, he doesnt care about customers - he sees them as a money pit..he charges a lot, they pay and then get rubbish service so he's not bothered because he's had the money already.

Thankfully not all venues are bad and if any ask for such a huge deposit up front then they are to be avoided.

Steph - as others have said things posted on facebook can be misconstrued and ex's sister is a bit touchy and has thought that the comments were aimed at her family. Don't go crawling back and don't contact him...he will contact you when he is ready, if he doesn't then that shows that he didnt care anyway and the wedding was all for show and you are best off without him. Enjoy the holiday and you never know who you might meet when you least expect it...good luck hun and look forward and not back.

Ah Steph, I think Horace has the right advice for you. It maybe could have been handled better but it seems like shes just a little evil. Grr!
Concentrate on your cracking holiday and just wait, he'll be back. xxx

Well at 2am this morning I started getting abusive texts off a number I didn't recognise I did reply to try and find out who it was the person just said that it was my OH who had got them to do this.

I've got a good idea that it was his sister I've rang the number back on a with held number but got no answer. I have text my ex to ask him if he has give my number out and get who ever it is to stop. He eventually replied saying it wasn't him he's not give my number out.

I'm so worn out with it all now I've not really slept not ate since monday can only manage to drink a glass of water a day I feel so sick.

Beks good news love!! Hopefully it's very soon that they go in. Shame that there are so many unhappy people isn't it. I hope you find somewhere fantastic soon.

Beks - he's finally filed his December 2008 accounts at Companies House! Only 6 months overdue.

Accounts were only filed in very recently, so they should be available to download in the next few days I'll check again tomorrow

Horace - I think what you say is correct although I seem to remember when we booked, he said he had done over 100 weddings in 2009. Some of those could possibly be the ones also sueing him I guess.
