hi beks, have read this entire thread but already cant remember all of it.

you sound like a nice person who has come across a nasty person, and he has probably trampled on many people before. I did wonder how he gets away with this but it seems your diffilculty in finding a legal route to solving the problem is probably how.

At the start he was denying all knowledge of your existance, claiming no emails, no contact with you etc. If he persisted with that I think you would have had very little hope legally.

He then made the mistake by telling you about refunds, so at this point you have receipt of payment.

Solicitors probably werent too willing because its not a cut and dry case for them, a lot of evidence as far as they are concerned is hear say, the only facts are the bank statement and the emails but emails can be fabricated.

Clearly he is experienced in this scam, when you first visited his partner will have already known how to react to you as well as himself when you met him, I feel your mistake was not been agressive at that point, like allowing him to usher you out, I would have deliberatly caused a fuss in front of the wedding that was going on at the time eg.

You defenitly need solid legal advice, you basically have paid for a service that he says he is willing to provide, I think if the day passed and he didnt provide the service your case would be strong but until then he probably has the upper hand. I hate typing this as he sounds a very evil man and I very much hope I am wrong. But keep persisting go to the media as everyone says, follow all legal avenues, consider naming and shaming him especially on here, and maybe even pound him with fake bookings from friends to mess him up.

LOL!!! Yeah, some people do tell me I am too 'nice' so you might be right. I dont think I am though and OH wouldnt agree either LOL!! :rotfl: I do wish I could be a bit firmer but hey, I cant change my personality!! :D
Thanks though, I can see what you are saying and this is what I have worried about. A lot of it is hearsay but don't forget we have an email from them to say all info has been lost. He did not bother to reply to our first 2 letters of complaint (and we can prove we sent them) until the threat of court on the third, I think this would show something about the sort of person he is. IMO it is still breach of contract - they have lost all our information.
Glad we have the legal appointment though, I hope we will be able to clarify some issues and then move on from there. Still considering media but will see what solicitor thinks of this first too. :D

Just got back from a week away. Had an email 2 days ago from him to say he had received our last letter (3 weeks ago!!) and their position remained the same. Not sure why he bothered to send it but can only presume that he has had legal advice.
We have an appt with a solicitor on Tues (I cannot go as I am working but have done all the paperwork and given to H2B to take and explain) and have also filled in house insurance claim forms so waiting to hear from them too (might be a while with the postal strike).
I am determined but I just don't know what the court will say. I hope the solicitors can help. :o
  • Good Luck for Tuesday x Hope it goes well and you start getting somewhere towards getting your money back.

  • Just read through this thread and am with you Beks!
I can't imagine how you must be feeling

    (((((hugs)))))

I hope it all goes well on Tuesday.

The solicitor may suggest some options that may take time, but don't give up - that's exactly what this muppet is hoping you will do, he knows that it's getting closer to your big day and this works to his advantage.

Ask the solicitor about timescales - have an idea in mind about how long it will take you to arrange your wedding. You've already mentioned the idea of postponing and that you've not paid out for anything else. Just being prepared for the possibility of a later wedding date should help you reduce stress, but hopefully it won't come to that!

 So angry on your behalf!

Looking forward to hearing about your amazing wedding day when all this is over!

Good luck for Tuesday love I'll be thinking of you. I don't know where these people get off robbing people of their hard earned money. I do hope that eventually you take it to the press.

Thank you all. Keeping my fingers crossed for Tuesday too. I am trying to get time off work to go with OH, its not that I don't trust him but I want to hear what they say with my own ears and not get it second hand. It is his money that we have lost though so legally, it has to be him who persues the venue through the courts. I doubt my work will want me to take the time off though as I have appointments all the way through the day (and its a really busy time of year) but I shall ring them today to see if some of the appointments can be moved. Our legal appt is 12.30 so bang on lunch which may help.

I have written out a list of questions to ask (including about media) so will hope the responses are positive. I am trying to work out the interest but not quite sure how to calculate it. I have also typed out a sequence of events and have copies of all the emails/letters/bank statement etc which I hope is everything they need. I have an awful feeling that the news will not be good but we have no choice, I am not getting married there and we cannot afford to lose the money. OH is now coming round to the media idea and is willing to disclose the compensation used now. Will keep you updated with any progress, not that I think there will be any for a long time now. :(
