We also stayed in Los Cristianos, 2 years ago, and I would recommend it. LC is next door to PDLA and within easy reach of it, but much quieter in the evenings. You could walk along from LC Harbour, along the beaches to PDLA (no need for a taxi, it was only a 20 min walk). The beaches there at PDLA were lovely but the town there in the evening was OTT - noisy, chavvy and full of v expensive shops, nightclubs, lagerlouts. Glad we were not staying there.

We didn't hire a car, as taxis and buses were easy to get and the distances to various excursions are short anyway..

I agree with Coupon-mad it's a lovely walk from Los Los Cristianos to PDLA.

Fanabe beach area in Costa Adje is also really nice with a lovely 20min walk to Playa del Duque.

If you do go I'd say stay either side of PDLA.
I go every year because I have a timeshare.

And which of all those beaches is the best? I like sandy beaches with good swimming/bathing i.e. no rocks underfoot!

Thanks for the advice so far...

Las Vistas beach which has the Compostela Beach Club apartments behind it is the best in PDLA.

Playa de Camison isn't bad either - though I would still walk that little bit extra for Las Vistas.

Here's a link to a decent map showing all the apartments/ hotels in the area http://www.kershaw.me.uk/MainFiles/Villa/Docs/Las%20Americas%20Map%202.jpg
I don't agree with the others knocking PDLA - over the past few years it has been tidied up a lot, Veronicas strip is still there for the young'uns who still require alcohol and other things for their evenings entertainment - but the majority of the area has nice restaurants, bars and shops.

The roads are generally one way around the resort with wide pedestrian areas.

Los Christianos is a lovely walk along the seafront to the port and shops, (approx 30 mins nice stroll).

    Thanks kforshaw.

So are Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje better then? Do they have plenty of restaurants etc?

I have to say, I have no knowledge of Adeje at all, only that it houses a delightful restaurant called Oasis Restaurant which has gorgeous chicken!
However, the people that i know who have stayed there say it is lovely - and I will also say they are the ones who use to be "hardcore" PDLA stayers.

Los Christianos has a lot of shops, (and it used to have a market - I'm not sure if that is still there), many restaurants and bars including nice fish restaurants at the harbour front.
There are bars and shops also, and set further back are more family type bars etc.
As others have said - it's really not that far between both resorts so if you were to stay in one and not like it - it isn't far to go.

Both resorts hold different things - but it certainly isn't the alcohol strewn, lager lout, drug addled place others are suggesting.
Always check Tripadvisor for reviews about your accomodation - in my experience - you can't really go wrong with Parque Santiago apartments (PS3 has the best pool and kids play area) but they are dearer than other places you could go to.

Blimey - if u dont want lager louts then avoid PDLA! Went there in my younger days and it is a typical club 18-30's type resort. Not many nice restaraunts either - mostly catering to english ie greasy fry ups etc bleurgh!

You'd be surprised now the 18-30s club don't go there anymore.
From when I 1st went about 10yrs ago it's really changed, so quite & more up market.
I haven't been into PDLA for a while but either side is really nice.
    I stay in Torviscas.

    kforshaw.

The market is still there but the market near Torviscas/Adeje has been moved, it's now near to Playa del Duque for some reason.

Tara they are both really nice areas but if I had to pick I'd say Los Christianos but stay near the beach.

Its very different now. Dont be put off OP by what people say about it full of chav's etc. It used to be in the 90's and early 2000's but isnt anymore. Iv been 7 times and i remember the veronica strip (club area)it was really chavvy but now they have re-done the front of the resort, they have new laws in where after midnight clubs/pubs cant play music that can be heard outside.
And they did shut down alot of the clubs on veronicas strip a few years ago.
PDLA is a lovely resort, I liked Los christianos but liked being able to walk there and had dinner in the area a few times, we generally stay at the adeje end of tenerife, last twice stayed in a wonderful hotel called Santa Maria which is right near the marina.
We have always booked direct with the hotel, i think its hovima hotels. could be wrong though.

There are lots of lovely resturants at the adeje end and it is a newly developed area with lots of nice shops too.

Hope thats helped, but as others have said if you hear of a hotel check it out on trip advisor before booking, gives a good indication of what to expect when you get there.

I have been recommended these Parque Santiago apts but can't find them on any tour operator websites! :(

Well, lots of opposing opinions here :rotfl: You're certainly giving me food for thought!

So far I like the sound of:
    Parque Cristobal apts
    Parque Santiago apts
    Colon II apts

p.s. Tripadvisor is my new fave website! lol
