I've just had a chat with someone who rather disagrees with XLTrading about the legality of making back-ups.

Well, it might be discounted by some as just a matter of opinion, but this person seems to be working in the specific area of anti-piracy of some kinds of software. I'm not going to say where, but he says he has links with similar units elsewhere, so perhaps they'll all be taking a joint interest in this.

As for worrying about accidents to the cigarettes mentioned above, I'd have thought fire was quite a big risk.

Hmm 24 hours is nearly up, so I guess that the thread will be deleted anytime soon, well if XLT's statements are correct, but it's a little hard to sort truth from fiction when someone can't keep their word at not posting anymore.

Can someone make a back up thread?

If I make a backup copy of my Photoshop CS4 and use that to protect the original disc, I doubt Adobe would worry to much. However if I SOLD that backup to my neighbour who promises faithfully he also has an original disc, then I think this would be illegal.Even if he did have a disc, what I would be doing is selling a copy of CS4 which is certainly illegal.

So all things considered,I believe XL are trading illegally.

Do you think we should ask MSE if they can take a copy of the thread for us, as I have original posts in here, therefore I would like a 'back-up' :)

Dear MSE, Please put I have put an (X) on the dotted line ....X.... this is to indicate that I have posted in the original thread and would like to obtain a 'back-up' of the thread, admittedly 90% of the thread doesn't belong to me, but I do own some of the content.
  • Anyone listen to 5 Live earlier?

There was a guy on it who was saying he was jailed for 3 years for selling Trademarked Backup Goods.

Spent 13 months inside & is now on a tag.....

Liverpool Sky TV Box cheat is jailed in UK first

THE first person in the country to be prosecuted for using sophisticated technology to illegally access Sky channels has been jailed for four months.

Keith Cairns, 45, from Croxteth not only sold unauthorised decoder boxes but also charged his customers a monthly subscription fee - and if they did not pay they would be cut off.

They've had my email address for 24 hours now to pass onto their "legal team" (aka mum downstairs in the kitchen) and nothing so far. I passed their r/l address onto FAST and Microsoft - hey, anyone who makes legal threats deserves everything they get in my book, and then some.
