Wiping credit card- is it a scam?

I think these guys are good, the website they've set up is identical to the minstry of Justice website take a look at them:
https : //www claimsregulation gov uk/index.asp - Scam
http: //www justice gov uk/ - authentic
(sorry as a new user I can't paste links)
From an IT perspective:
- If this was a valid website then the domain name would be the same for both (both would be justice).
- If you manage to go on the website click the HOME page, they should both match (or click the header in the first link it doesn't even take you to the Ministry of Justice homepage)
- And lastly why would the first one be a secure site (https shows a secure site something that you would use for making payments)
So yeah definitely a scam. I received the call a few minutes ago, wasn't quick enough to verify the above and google but cancelled my card and a new one issued now. One thing I'll give them credit for - they've things well set up!!! Thanks to everyone on this site for their warnings!!!

www.claimsregulation.gov.uk is a genuine site.
- There is no reason a single site cannot have multiple domain names set up to give easy access to different (or the same) areas.
- In this case they are two distinct sites run by the Ministry of Justice! The home link takes you to the home page of each site.
- https is a good thing - giving your card details to suspicious sites is bad (https or not).
I'm not sure what part of IT your perspective is coming from, but I'm afraid you don't seem to know what you're talking about.
However:
What call are you talking about?
Why is your card involved?
What on Earth are you talking about?0 -

Yep...
In fact, the government seem to have a particular love of forever rebranding their various quangos/departments and duplicating website content.0 -

It's not a scam, wiping your credit card can make it shinier. Just make sure that you don't wipe it too hard, as it may remove some of the important information contained on the magnetic strip rendering it unusable. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -

The service required payment of £199.99 which could be paid on my credit card- hence would be wiped. Has anyone else encountered this? Is it a scam?
Many thanks!
Hi Everyone,
Just to give an update with C-C-S, I was contacted in Dec 09, from this company informing me about wiping my loan etc. (Yes I did give my bank details etc I Know) After filling in all the forms etc no contact was received from C-C-S at all so this got my alarm bells ringing.
Bullet Points what to do next;- Keep a log of correspondences Approx/dates etc and inform the claims regulation of your despair they will give you direction what to do next send letter informing of their contract (Recorded delivery).
- I noticed that after looking into my bank details (my money went into AIMS LEGAL LTD) and made claims regulation aware of this third party, immediately an email was received from (Director, AIMS LEGAL LTD), ordering C-C-S for a refund.
- C-C-S contacted me (1st Time since Dec 09) and told me of a BACS payment to be made, a full Refund was made.
- If they did not pay within 14 days (as instructed from my recorded delivery) I would take further advice from the claims regulation and finally down the Small Claims Court as a last resort.
- Be vigilant and keep on perusing don’t get given excuses about sending a cheque in the post, being told they have not got your account details etc.
- Record every phone call and correspondence (as this will give support on any further claim).
- Finally make the CONSUMER-CREDIT-SERVICES & AIMS LEGAL LTD via email of what is being said on this website, surely they will change their approach on how they conduct business and I hope everyone will benefit from this.
- Look into bank details and pin down were your money gone into (Third Party) and inform claims regulation they were brilliant (I do believe if I did not pursue this then I would still be waiting for my refund).
Good Luck!!!!:j0 -
I am becoming addicted to this site :-) Reading peoples stories is inspiring and also somewhat voyeuristic, however whilst I understand the premise behind unenforceability I do have certain issues with it in some cases.
The simple fact is that if you borrow money, for whatever purpose, you should do your best to pay it back, I could only read with wry amusement another post where the individual owed 16k, was in part time employment and bemoaning the fact that the cruel and heartless loan companies would not give her another 8k to pay for her wedding and a honeymoon cruise.
Clearly the banks should bear an element of the blame for the situation they find themselves in regarding bad loans, but conversely there is the principle of personal responsibility involved. Where a credit card company has upped their interest rate from a standard 16 percent to a usurious 34 percent I am in favour of unenforceability. Where the original terms of the contract have been agreed to and the agreed interest rate remains static then I see no reason to pursue the unenforceability route.
In essence those individuals who pay on time and complete all contracts in full are being penalised by way of high interest rates for those who do not wish to meet their contractual commitments
Purely a personal view - please dont attack me :-)0 -
Consumer Credit Services is a ligitimate business, registered wit the ministry of Justice SEE HERE under the number CRM20280.
However, you can still do all they state for a fraction of the cost - usually £1 for an agreement request or £10 for a statement request
That is NOT the ministry of justice website!! Just a VERY good .gov copy, check the tabs on top with www.justice.gov.uk0
