BT Speed Question

For weeks now I have been fighting with BT, as since changing my broadband to them, I have been getting speeds of less than 1, when they promised max 6 for my area.
Now they have supposedly fixed the problem, and have told me that I am now getting the maximum possible speed of one-point-something....can this be right? How can they promise max 6 and then have it drop to something so slow???

So what speed did you achieve with your previous ISP? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

TBH I'm not sure, but previously with my Orange Broadband, things like videos loaded reasonable quickly, now I'm getting huge delays with these. Some websites are taking forever to load if there's a lot of content, I didn't get that problem before.Savings goal: £1000 by December 20110

I use explorer (ok, so that's not great), but my bf uses Firefox and he still gets no better speeds than me.Savings goal: £1000 by December 20110

Wired or wireless? Same speed on both? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Tried both, on both machines. Exactly the same. And we have an extension to the hub, which we thought might be an issue, so we plugged it directly into the socket....still no different. I have ordered an accelorator from BT to see if that helps, not arrived yet. Point is though, how can they advertise high speed and then not deliver? Is there anything else I can do that I haven't already?Savings goal: £1000 by December 20110

When you used the master socket, did you try the test socket?
If this gives no improvement, the the BT accelerator will do nothing!
You could post your router line stats. see here

What they advertise is an "up to" service. Were you given a speed estiamate for your line ?
You can run a speedtest at http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ which will help determine if your ip profile is correct0 -
Yeah, I did try the test socket on the advice of the BT techie. I have also done the speed test you mentioned littleboo. They said that the maximum for my area was 6meg, but now they are saying just over 1 meg. Hell of a leap.Savings goal: £1000 by December 20110
