  • If you can't afford something there's nothing wrong with asking for help.

lots of people find it humiliating. There really is no need for this situation if the school followed the guidelines.

No. The school have got it wrong. Perhaps the OPs kids will learn that it is not acceptable to be bullied by institutions that should know better.

Where is the evidence of bullying?...where is the evidence the school got it wrong?

Ironically part of the reason for school uniforms is to stop bullying.

the OP made it clear that there was no alternative to buying expensive branded uniform from one supplier

    As I previously posted:
According to the DCFS Schools should make every effort to limit the cost of school uniforms or risk enforcement action.
In particular, the guidelines warn that schools that have exclusive contracts with suppliers may be subject to enforcement action under the terms of the Competition Act. Overly expensive uniform policies may also fall foul of the School Admissions Code, which places a statutory duty on all governing bodies to ensure that their policies and practices do not disadvantage any children.

What more evidence did you want?

I would have no problem buying a logo'd school Uniform, IF it was reasonably priced....this schools clearly is not...that is my whole argument.

My kids look as smart in their uniform as any other kid in their Logo'd uniform. It does not affect their school work, cannot see what impact it has on the community, I can just see that the school has found a way to increase its revenue stream.

With regards to knowing the rules re school uniforms, this rule has only come in this year and has caught a few of us out. This problem is going to be discussed at the next PTA. There are about 20 of us (families) in the same siutuation, and all of us agree we are not going to back down.

    *****

I would also like to point out to all those who say, 'if you don't like it take your kids to another school', trust me I would if I could. This was not our choice of school, I would rather my kids went to the school 200m over the road, not the one at the top of the hill 1/2 a mile away. People seem to think I have a choice as to where my kids go, I don't.The LEA allocate the school places and they allocated us to this school, there are no places left at the other schools in the area.

OP's post is in no way credible evidence...it supports their point of view of course...can YOU name the school in question so we can check their website re. their uniform policy...no...I thought not!

Well I hope it goes well for you all :)

I really don't see the problem so long as everyones smartly dressed and in the same style/colour uniforms. You'd have my backing!

well said dori2o - as i said before - schools think parents have a money tree in the garden. if 20 other parents are in same situation dont back down. good luck!
