Please keep this on topic guys. You're starting to go into stereotypes and stuff now which isnt what i thought this forum was about. She is trying to save money by not being forced into a monopoly. LETS SEE IF WE CAN HELP HER
No she has ignored a school policy and decided to buy the uniform from Asda and got caught out. This has nothing to do with how much the uniform costs because the school will help her out with the costs but only if she approaches them first. Instead of jumping up and down having a tantrum and writing letters she should contact the school and explain the situation and see what they suggest.0 -
I would write back a polite but firm letter stating you cannot afford to pay the prices of the logo'd uniform and feel your child are dressed appropriately and that you are both surprised and disappointed by the schools attitude - particularly in this economic climate. Then just keep sending your children to school in the uniform you have bought.
I think the schools attitude is horrific and makes a mockery of school uniform and the ideas behind it - and, because, as others have stated, they make money from their uniform. I have bought my child a mix of branded and non-branded items and will send him in which ever I pull out first, and if my son's school did get uppity about it (although I doubt they would since actually they ONLY sell jumpers and not very expensively so obviously realise that parents cannot afford to pay fortunes) I would also send a letter on the above lines.
They cannot remove your children from school and they cannot discriminate, so cannot force you to do anything... although you could also suggest if it means that much to them they help fund it
PS My son has been to three different schools and every single one of them has stated school uniform must be worn and NONE have stated that it must be logo'd - so don't be so quick to assume OP has signed anything saying her children would wear logos. One Debt vs 100 Days Challenge - £2000.00COMPLETED :j0 -

I had to reply when I saw some of the things that have been posted
mrcol1000, the things you have been saying and the conculsions you have jumped to really are very harsh. I have not been in the OP's situation but I do agree that the prices being charged are extortionate especially for a coat that is going to be trashed after 3 days and the kids will not want to wear after school or at the weekends because it will feel like they haven't left school.
Oh and by the way, companies should never make you pay for safety equipment. It comes under the HASAW Act as PPE and if they do try and charge you then they can be taken to court.
Perhaps you should check your facts before posting?
Might save you some blushes!:DIf I am laughing, then I don't understand!!

If you had read my post you would see I said that you get the money back after you have been there a while. Companies do this to stop people working for them for a few days and them losing out on safety equipment. Also I can assure you that regardless of what the law says some companies will charge their employees for safety equipment. I think you need to appericate what the law says and what people do are sadly two different things. Just like schools having rules for what kids should wear as uniform and what parents send them to school in.0 -
Ah but then perhaps we should also look at the difference between policy and law??:DIf I am laughing, then I don't understand!!

As I keep saying if the OP doesn't like the school policy or any other parent who doesn't like their schools policy on uniform then she is free to take her/their kids to a different school with a more lax approach to uniform. Forcing a school to change their policy because a parent or two doesn't like having to make their student wear a blazer (which is not a coat by the way) with a school logo on is madness.0 -
