I do believe asda are now fighting back lets hope others follow suit.

if caught parking in disabled/mother and baby and you have no legitimate reason to do so they are starting to fine people..... about time too
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Yes I heard that too, and about time

If more shops did this they would be less abuse from people that have lazyitus. It's a condition where the driver/passenger/s are unable to walk long distances to the shop/cash machine, but they have no trouble once inside the store to browse and make purchases at there leisure.

Genuine disabled unfortunately as highlighted are inconvenienced because of them

I take it you missed Martin's email last week mentioning private car park tickets not being enforceable in law? Your post is completely awry with the facts and with MSE's latest 'crusade' on the subject.

See my previous post above, with MSE forum and site links.

Private car park companies cannot fine people (they just put the frighteners on and pretend their pieces of paper are 'fines' so that unsuspecting people think that they have to pay).

BTW I am not and have NEVER advocated parking in a disabled bay (or a mother and child bay) unless you are entitled to do so. Quite the opposite - but I do get frustrated when people believe that these charlatans who 'run' car parks have the power to issue and enforce penalties. They don't.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

It is a civil fine and not a criminal fine. If the person doesn't pay up, Asda will have to chase them through the courts - a costly process not to mention the bad publicity. Just imagine the headlines 'Spend £150 on your weekly shop and we'll charge you £80 for parking!' Besides the driver will probably choose to ignore the fine anyway.

These people are also paying customers who may put about £5000 through the tills per annum.

What do you think Asda cares more about? Money or parking spats?

You might not like me saying this but just because you got a toddler or a blue badge it does not automatically guarantee you a parking place.

Besides, it can be about supply and demand. Go shopping at 11am on a Saturday morning in Asda or any other supermarket and there is no chance of parking in either disabled or mother & baby.

If you go shopping at 8am Monday morning and there will be plenty of spaces available.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

I quite agree with that...it's hit and mis.

And maybe risk a smack in the chops?:rotfl:

Aside that, is it really any one else's business where people park in a car park?

    For example:

Just cos someone doesn't display, say, a blue badge but they are suffering with sciatica, it's piddling down with rain, and they are tired after working all day, and just want to pop into Asda/Tesco for a pint of milk/tin of dog food and decide to park as near as they can to the door and will probably be quick doing their shopping.

It's not hardly the end of the world is it if they abuse it for a very very short time. Parking bays near the front door are for convenience for all who need them at that time the bays are empty.

I badly sprained my ankle once, I could drive but walking was agonising. I parked in disabled bay in Tesco, does that make me bad cos I don't have a blue badge?

  • I wish there was almost 2 types of disabled bays. When i first got my badge i needed to be parked close to where i was going as I could only walk a short distance, I now don't go out very much but when I do it doesnt make a difference if im 10 meters or 100 meters away from where I am going, but I need the extra space to get my chair down the side of the car. We went to asda a while back and got the last disabled bay, it was marked as disabled but wasn't enough room by far to get a wheelchair down the side- even a kids one wouldn't of been able to do it! I know they can't maintain the current system let alone introducing 2 but doesnt stop me wishing it when we have spent ages going around and around trying to park (and i can only be out for short periods so hate wasting it in cark parks!!!)

And that poster was within his or her rights so to do.

Why don't supermarkets and shopping centres actually sort out the problem?

Answer - because they cannot be bothered
No he / she was not :p

A bit of a sexist comment. It's parent and child spaces. The ones used by blue badge holders when they cant be botherd to look for a free disabled space.
  • I was at tescos the other week and saw a heavily pregnant woman getting out a car in a disabled bay, some old woman went nuts at her and she went to go back to her car to move it!! I told her not to bother! I mean I can understand people with broken legs, ligament damage etc because they are temp 'disabled' with the same problems! I also understand pregnant woman, cos its bloody hard with a huge bump....but because people who clearly dont have any problems waling any distance or getting out there car use them, this makes it more difficult and makes the rules tighter for everyone

if we all had consideration, we wouldnt have these problems :(
Yes im disabled....yes I can do things you cant....but you can do things I cant so were equal! :D
