i find it very annoying that you can only see if the offers have been taken into account at the end - they don't come up on the til as they go through so you have to pay, wait for the receipt then go through it while a queue of people wait to use the til!!

Agree that Sainsburys are the worst for this and it has happened to me many times. However, Moneysaver that I am, I always go to CS and point out the error. Have to say that they are lukewarm about apologising and only do the bare minimum to sort things out. :(

Slightly off topic, but it's one of those things I ponder as I'm leaving the supermarket. My wife and daughter and I are all suckers for the "buy one get one free" offers, or the "buy three for the price of two" offers.

But I often buy them, then leave the store thinking "but I didn't really need Watermelons anyway....so I've not really saved anything have I?....In fact, they're made me spend money that I didn't want to spend...AAARGH!"

Maybe I'm just being picky. Sure if it's something that was on the shopping list, and the offer persuades you to buy a different brand than your usual...but if I had no intention of buying that item in the first place then they've suckered me.

BACK ON TOPIC though, I've always had faith that the till was giving the correct discount. Damn, am I gullible. I'm going to start to check.

Keep the receipt. Phone them up and they'll log it in the book. Next time you go, head straight to the customer service desk and they'll fix it.

If it happens at Asda they give you a £2 credit in addition to your refund.

exactly what I was going to say :)

It does. The secret is to put your BOGOFs , 3 for 2s etc as close together on the checkout, then you can see it happening in real-time ;)

Absolutely agree that Sainsburys are pants when it comes to price control.

I often find that they have scanned the reduced items at full price as the aisle-chimps are too lazy to put a 'cancelled' sticker across the barcode.

I always check the receipt and more often than not I have to go to CS to get a refund where they always pay up.

It does seem that they just accept it and do nothing to prevent it from happening again. They just initial my receipt and pay me the difference.

Not sure if it is a company-wide policy, but they are obviously not bothered in stopping the overcharging as they do not log the problem, therefore they cannot trace it back to the cause (ie wrong advertising, blind till-tart, wrong price on system).

On a plus point, their pricing system can work in your favour... I quite often pick up reduced items on BOGOF/3ftpo2 and get them for peanuts or even get a credit. Recent example was 3 jars of Grossman sauces for 39p and I got paid 76p for four nets of satsumas (original price £1.69 on 2 for £2, reduced to 50p a net, therefore paid £2 but got £2.76 deducted for the offer)

One other point... always check that the veg scales are set to zero. You often see pens/sleeves/bags resting on the plate causing it to weigh more.

hey thriftylady I'm on your side. I think its great when people demand their 10p overcharge back. If sainsburys over charged all their customers on the same day (or everyday for that matter) by 10p then thats another billion or so in Sainsburys pocket.

I think they know what they are doing and relying on folks not to complain, afterall its only 10p!!

I think the BOGF overs are a scam. You pick up your items advertised BOGF in the aisle (not sure if thats how you spell it & I can't seem to get the spell check on here to work:mad: ) anyway, then you get through the check out only to find you have been charged full price for both:mad:

I'm convinced they do not update their computers for the offers on purpose.

It's not the check out chicks fault, it's management!!

Think I need a cup of tea now
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)
