With the systems I've worked with (not Sainsbury's) things are not as automated as you would expect. The people putting in prices and offer details in the first place are only human and of course, make mistakes (myself included). It's carelessness rather than a drive to steal your money - it does seem to work both ways (especially in Asda!).

I agree with this, it's definately down to carelessness on the part of the people updating the systems. I work for Sainsburys and shop there, I always check my receipt(there are also some careless c/o staff too!). My biggest annoyance with Sainsburys is that if anything is on BOGOF they never have it in stock, the offer finishes and lo and behold they get it in again!! Also they tend to hike the price up of the said item when the BOGOF has finished.

I've often found two of the same item are cheaper than a BOGOF, it pays to check both out.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

This used to happen occasionally at Safeways before they became Morrisons.

I use to contact them afterwards by phone and insist they sent the money back to me. They always did.
