I'm not sure we can blame those playing the system anymore.

I'm starting to feel they are actually the bright ones. We have one life, they can enjoy theirs. For the rest of us, we get 4 weeks a year to do that kind of stuff.

Labour have made a life n benefits so comfortable, and incentivised it so much, I can't really blame people anymore for making the choice to use the system.

I get the joke, but I see the element of truth to it as well. Are we the suckers for working?

Isn't it funny how the OP omits to mention the quote is from an article by Michael Portillo.

As surely no-one can admit to agreeing with Portillo with a straight face.

At least not if they want to show their faces in public.

Even a broken clock can be right twice a day.

I agree with Mr Portillo. I think the poor should jolly well get a job, and if there are no jobs to be had, they should at least bake a cake, so they can eat it.

Bring back National Service, I say! That will sort the yoof of today out! Especially since I am now old enough so I wouldn't have to do it myself, thank god.

Not at all. People are only suckers if they do a job they hate for a long period of time.

Obviously, unpleasant work for short periods is a different matter: means to ends & all that.

  • Portillio , who is that sounds like a tally to me , send him back to wherever island the tallys come from;)

Ban alchohol while for being paid benefits.

Remove all tv bar terrestrial for the unwaged , stick a box on it that wont switch it on during workign hours.Ban internet and phones other than payg.

licence pregancy only for those that are five years married , homed and working.

sterililise serial breeders with children from different fathers.

remove motability cars for all but those in wheelchairs and actually working , and for the rest they just get pushed around in open carts by the barefooted unemployed until a job looks a better prosepct.

Have the unemployed sit in all those redundant schools watching training videos everyday during working hours.

Lets see how long before there is negative unemployment.

Oh and dont forget they have to wear say a coloured shape on their clothese when out and about.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
  • hey i feel the same about people living off the state. but i dont blame them. and yes i have a job. the people i blame is the goverment. and i blame us for being quiet little mice letting the government do this! i blame people who dont go on strike for better conditions. we need to start growing some balls and having a say in everything. the people who dont vote because they feel it wont count are purely and simply cowards. we need a general election and the whole country to vote. easy as that

The problem is that there really is a huge divide between the deserving poor and the undeserving poor. We do ourselves no service as a society to pretend that there is not, and wring our hands in a paroxysm of collective guilt and mealy mouthed politicial correctness.

I have never met one person who wants to deprive the deserving poor of benefits and assistance. Many people would in fact like to see them increased.

On the other hand, many of us don't want assorted workshy/idle/!!!!less/irresponsible others to live life at our expense. I don't think that's unreasonable.
