After the last post I feel rather inferior to say that my diamond is low quality from ... http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/3473872/ .We went and brought it and chose it together last Monday (bank holiday). It was a lovely day where I felt for the first time he was really beginning to open up and get involved. So it was a nice intimate time
I am very happy with my inferior diamonds!! Leaving my money for a better reception venue!!

Im sorry, I wasnt saying your diamond was low quality, what I am saying is I would rather have a better colour, less visibly scratched smaller carat diamond, than a larger carat diamond that was of poorer colour and clarity0

I had a look on Samara James - i choose a VS2 Premium F Colour 0.8 Carat in Platinum and was £3123
I could go white gold SI2 H Colour 1.0 Carat for £3430 - but would not want a low quality diamond - much prefer smaller, better one
I'd go for the VS2, F as well, and that seems a good price for a premium (presume vg cut???) 0.8 cut stone in plat.....0 -

However, I'm having some trouble finding reputable websites that use it.

We're using Betts Metals - just remember to register as a hobbyist for massive savings. They have been recommended on here in several other threads.0 -
My boyfriend has inherited a yellow diamond and we are currently getting quotes from Hatton Garden jewellers to get it made into a ring - platinum band, pave diamonds. I'm interested the most with Daniel Prince as they seem geared up to making bespoke rings with clients own diamonds but they seem quite expensive.
The diamond is an unusual cut and i understand that getting a ring custom made is expensive but does anyone have any experience of Daniel Prince?
Also having a lot of trouble getting a quote for getting a certificate for the diamond. Have had vastly different quotes ranging from £60 - £240! I am currently in contact with BGI in Hatton Gardens who are being helpful and said that £240 was too much but are very slow at getting back to me with a quote.0 -
when I was looking at diamonds 1 yr ago it was £100 to get it certificated. Just done through the jeweller we used.Kavanne

I think that local jewellers are often better value that the big high street names. I got my engagement ring from a local jeweller - they could make any design as they had a workshop on site so I could choose the exact ring and diamond I thought would suit my fiance, and the diamonds were top quality.
I don't agree with the supposed '1 months salary' rule at all. It all depends what would suit your fiance and what she wants. Personally I think £1200-2000 is a sensible amount for a gold or platinum ring with up to a half carat diamond.
