Spend what you can afford. I love my engagement ring. It is quite unusual and has an amethyst as my hubby knows how much I love them. I love the fact that he picked it for me and it was a complete suprise.
Think it probably cost about £100 ish 3 years ago.
Good luck
he have found very good deal on mybridalbells.com0 -

Well as almost everyone said, spend as much as you can afford. Check if it isn't bloody diamond, make sure that she love the design of the ring, and it will be jackpot. I have found wonderful rings on thediamondstory.com and I am very satisfied.0

I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere in this extremely lengthy thread, but the significant amount spent on diamond engagement rings today is largely a result of a De Beers advertising campaign from the last century. They coined the phrase "diamonds are forever" and showed celebrities draped with diamonds. They later suggested the 2 month salary guide... The public fell for it hook, line and sinker and diamonds became the norm for engagement rings. It seems somewhat less important to spend such a huge chunk of cash on a diamond engagement ring when you understand the cynical beginnings of the traditiion0

The Trumpet & Horn collection is comprised of vintage engagement rings and antique jewelry that are incredibly unique and one-of-a-kind. Many of their pieces were hand made over 100 years ago and have been loved throughout many generations.0

I went through it all when trying to find my partner the perfect ring, its hard to find high quality at a good price but it is possible if anyone is seriously interested let me know and I will pass you a great contact. I ended up getting a shinny whole carrot on 18ct white gold and paid a lot less than what ive seen mentioned here! happy hunting0
