Hi LEJC. Whilst we agree that we do not have a presence on the high street, I would have to disagree with the view that there is no personal service. We have a showroom and prospective buyers are more than welcome to come to us. We also often have customers call us to get advice.

Where the money is saved is in the fact that we have very good relationships with our diamond polishing companies and deal with them directly as apposed to third party 'buyers'.

I am not seeking to advertise our business, however I think it is important to understand exactly how we work.

It is absolutely right for the consumer to make enquiries and shop around.

    Many thanks,
    Shan.

I believe you need the approval of MSE to post about your business on here.

And are you aware that you've replied to a post that was dated 8th January 2011?

...I might slightly disagree...you've managed to find a reference I made to your company quite a while back and suddenly decided to post a reply....
Just for clarification purposes...when did I make the comments you have now chosen to repond to?

17 Posts and the majority have been in response to the slighest reference to your company...

actually to balance it a little i'll even quote another sentance that I typed back in 2011 just to show that self promotion is not always needed...although I do conceed that its quite a while since the company has appeared in the spotlight of these threads....so just to end the self promotion idea once and for all...heres my quote from 2011.......

Its a shame really because there are many brides on here who regularly recommend Samara James for the service and Jewellery....you should continue to rely on their testimonials rather than self promotion IMO

edit...post crossed with that of pollycat....

  • Hi,

Has anybody been to Grays Antiques in London?

Do you have any feedback or advice?

I've been on a couple of visits recently and they have an extraordinary range of beautiful jewellery. I'm quite akin to the idea of getting a antique ring but the process is a bit different from getting a new ring especially in terms of certification GIA or otherwise as many of the rings yield from before that time or simply the paperwork doesn't exist. I was assured by a number of sellers that they would provide invoices with all the information that could be used for insurance purposes.

Ironically I actually found a relatively modern ring ring I liked there. The seller told me he 'estimated' that it was 1ct Sapphire Halo set in an estimated 1 ct of diamonds. The seller couldn't give me much information on the diamonds as they were small which Im told is quite normal because of their size, to be assessed they'd need to be removed from their setting. I was quoted £1750 so Ive been looking around online to see if this is a reasonable quote and though I haven't found anything exactly the same, it does seem a bit a high and I feel that the estimate of the diamond carat is also a bit high.

    Anybody have any pointers?

    Thanks in advance

  • Good afternoon,

Just my 2 cents about what happened to me with Samara James.

I have been dealing with Samara James in the recent few days, and I have no interest in promoting them in any way. However, I was just amazed by their prices and the quality of their services.

I originally called them to ask for a ring to propose but enquiring about the return policy if the lady did not appreciate the ring. Things are simple, there is no issue as long as you return it as its original state!
I proposed, she said yes, but clearly she wanted a different design.

I went back to their office in a lovely location but a bit far from central London, and the manager spend 3 hours with us trying to find what kind of the ring the lady would prefer. He was absolutely not pushy, trying much more to serve us than make a sale. We left with an idea of a new stone we would like.

I had in the past been to Hatton Garden, many shops and with some knowledge about the 4c and how to look at a stone, and the prices you get at Samara James are similar or lower to what you get their AFTER an hour of stress and haggling!

The manager started looking for such a stone, we were supposed to meet two weeks after. In the meantime, I lost my job, and contacted the owner to tell him I had to postpone the purchase of the ring. He really feel sorry for me, and obviously returned me my money.

I felt bad wasting his time, and I know Samara James are sometimes servicing much more important clients, cheickh, etc... but you indeed feel you are treated equally good. He contacted me frequently to tell me about different stones he had found in the meantime, and again was never pushy.

I know it is originally just a website, and you might think that's a "cheap" option, but I really had a much better feeling in terms both of price and services than a real shop (high street, and Hatton garden)

    Cheers
  • I love diamonds as much as the next girl but it's worth remembering what the ring is supposed to represent. I would of been happy with an old piece of tin as long as it came from the man I want to spent the rest of my life with. Maybe I'm just a soppy romantic....

    Hi

My fiance bought my engagement ring from goldsmiths in Jan which is so beautiful. However when having a little look online for some other jewellery under the same range I noticed it had been reduced by £600!! My fiance is livid not that he lost out on the money but the fact that he feels like they have sold him a ring that is worth less than what he paid. Im upset too does this mean my ring is now worth less? We feel like we've been cheated and conned. I understand that rings may go down in the sale but by 600 quid!!! What makes matters worse is that we have finance on it so were paying back more than what there selling it for! Surely there not allowed to do this?

Sell something and then put it on for sale of course they are allowed to do it

Are you aware that you've replied to a post that was posted almost 10 years ago!

This thread was started by the person you've replied to on 21st September 2004!

A bit late to suggest the OP looks through her special jewellery box. :rotfl:

The OP last posted in 2007 and hasn't logged on since 2010.

Although I would normally agree with you pollycat in fairness the subject of engagement rings can come up quite frequently on this board and it does make sense that a continual thread is used rather than lots of little ones.

In essence whilst the thread is a very old one and I admit a very long one the information contained in it hardly changes so potential users or queries can look back over a few pages and hopefully get some indication to the probable answers to their questions.
Many of the online retailers mentioned are still very competitive on price etc and the overall information is consistant.
I still believe its a good thread to bring out occaisionally....and its a good time for it to surface again now as a valentines proposal might be being thought about.

  • I think it depends on what her expectations are and what you can afford. When my husband when to The Diamond Shop in Hatton Garden he was clueless but the the guys (Vinny) helped him out. They told him what he could get for what he could afford (£4,500) and i ended up with a wonderful ring. But if she really wants something pricy there is nothing wrong with her subsidising either, plenty of couples do it. You should really speak with a jeweller they can always help you get a good price, the honest ones at least.

In the process of buying an ER and I'm down to a choice of two diamonds:

    Which diamond would look better?

    Princess 0.39 F VS1 EGL - Good cut
    Princess 0.38 D VS2 EGL - Very good cut

Obviously the top one is bigger and has better clarity
The bottom one is slightly smaller but with better colour and a better cut
