How many years can you go back? Am thinking of helping my SIL as she's always bounced cheques and direct debits. Her woolwich account has been locked ATM as she went over her buffer zone and new charges are being added daily. I would say she has bouced cheques/DD each month of between 1-4 for years...shocking isnt it!

    Any advice?

    very interesting!!
ok so i see you can claim even on closed accounts and going back years.
before he met me (about 6/7 years ago) my husband was getting these bank charges all the time.....the account was paid of and closed shortly after we got together and we dont have any existing paperwork/statements etc.
how do i go about getting copies of these statements? i see from ms-london and some other posters it is possible.
and can i just have a brief idiots quick guide on what we have to do? im going to follow all the links, threads etc and find out but we are away from tomorrow-monday and i wont have internet access so would like to know a quick idiots guide to how and why to tell my husband.

    Thanks

We are talking big big money here for SIL. I would say at least 2/3 charges per month over the period of at least 8 years at £30 a time....thats like £5760/£8640....possibly alot more:eek:

Maybe if im going to do this for her, I should ask for a cut:confused:

Thing is, she will be back doing it again and again-so no lesson learnt. Shes alot older than me and she asks me for money advice and they owe so much to everyone, but it is their fault as they have enough money coming in but they waste on going out and take aways:mad: some people never learn!!

You could do the ultimate cruel-to-be-kind on your SIL and tell her that if she writes to creditors asking for them to deny her credit for the next 5 years, you will get all the charges back and they should pay off a huge chunk of her debts with it. Then she will have to live on cash which should teach her a few good lessons :D But tell her that you'll only do it if she makes an effort to stop using credit.

OK you might not take a cut of it but it could be a very good gift to give her, the power to look after her finances?
