After following the advice on these forums and also https://www.bankcharges.info I have managed to get £1180 of bank charges refunded from https://www.smile.co.uk. It will really help make a dent in my debts, and I would recommend ANYONE who hasn't sent a letter to the bank to do it NOW!

Well done!!!
Wish I'd done this before I turned debt free - dont really have a leg to stand on now, but most of my debt were bank charges!!
Sorry to hijack your thread - but is it too late for me? xx0 -

Can't you claim them anyway? I thought the only rule was they had to be within 6 years. I think you'll find you'll get the cash back (which would be nice!)0 -

Get claiming!!!
You can claim back everything from the last six years!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I stupidly shredded all of my bank statements recently - how much would it cost to get them re-issued??? Oooh, may do it as the ££££ would come in very very handy for Oz.......
Thanks guys!! (no idea how to do it, will have to read the threads...)

So any charge over £12 is unfair, no matter why it was charge to your account? Over limit, unpaid DD or loans?
Does anyone know if it would cause problems if you have a loan with the bank & you try to get charges back from them?0 -
Delighted for you Mr Polythene - well done!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

Because of this it's possible to reclaim all bank charges from all time0 -
That's fantastic news Mr Poly - congrats!
Can I ask how long the whole thing took you, I mean from applying to getting? I've just added mine up this afternoon and it's just under £3000  so I'm not putting it off any longerOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 014Lightbulb Moment 12 December 05They may take our lives but they'll never take our FREEDOM!!0 -
Fantasic news!!! Well done
I think I'll check this out for OH as I know he's been charged quite a few times..........has a basic account (no overdraft facility etc)....and has a tendancy to forget about the odd DD coming out near the end of the month...thankfully he only has two! But could be worth a couple of hundred quid.....worth a try...
....I'm pretty sure I've never had bank charges (I can always check...still got everything going back 7 tax years!!):D0
