Because of this it's possible to reclaim all bank charges from all time

I'm half way through a claim for my brother!

My question is, what counts as an unfair bank charge? Could I try and claim ALL bank charges back? Or just particular ones? I have just requested the last 6 years worth of statements from my bank (£10), so would appreciate some help as to the next step.. Or is it any charge over £12 that makes it "unfair"? So should I claim anything over £12?
I know I used to pay approximately £100 a month in bank charges -  !!
I suspect it will take me a while to plough through the statements, but wanted to know what I can legally claim back as I dont want to take the p***!!
Please help...
Oooh, this will come in very handy for my travel fund!!! xx0 -

Have a look at https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/ and that will guide you... I have just had £170 back from Capital One... it's not just bank accounts but credit cards and store cards...
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
You can't claim back account fees though, you know the ones you pay to have the extras on an account.Barclaycard 3800

As for the other posts here, you have to realise that some charges you can't claim back. If you have an advanced account that charges you for privilidges then technically you're paying for a service so you can't claim this back.
HOWEVER, not all the banks actually check the claims. My claim is for more than I've actually been charged and they haven't pulled me up on it (we're only talking £50 or so). If it goes to court I will say that as the charges were so confusing I didn't know but it's ok as the judge will then adjust the amount and I'll still win. Depends how risky you feel
Good luck though folks, and remember https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk knows a lot more about this all than I, so go and research0 -
Must get on with another tonight, maybe barclaycard as im about to close that and Ive had it for almost 10 years.
DPas go back 6 years only dont they? Doubt Ive got any older statements than those:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Your DPA request can cover any data stored in a computer or organised filing system regardless of time frame hun
But, they might get funny and say the £10 statutory fee doesn't cover the cost of them doing it (basically it's too much hassle), but then you have the right to inspect the data on their premises. If you ask for more than 6 years and they kick up a stink, remind them of this obligation and it might not seem like so much hard work for them after all0
