Do Vodafone give it over the phone then? I was fobbed off with being told that it would be in the post and i'd get it in 3-5 working days BUT I received a text from Vodafone yesterday telling me a phone number would be calling me (giving me the phone number) to give me my PAC and to answer it. Of course I answer it and its just some guy trying to get me to stay and when I say no to everything he just says that my PAC is in the post!! Raging I was, why send you a text saying they will tell you the PAC code over the phone then just out and out LIE! I need to get this asap so I can organise everything

our o2 pacs were emailed within 24 hours. an orange payg pac came the next working day after asking for it over the phone.
  • I was rang by vodafone retentions after a short coversation i was given the PAC on the phone, in a text and by email.

  • Phoned Orange for my PAC on tuesday, was told it would be sent in a 'Text' and in the 'Post', not recieved it...

Strange that different companies have different systems, and yet the PAC should be issued there and then!

    From Ofcom website:

"The process is simple. To port your number, you ask your current mobile provider for a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) before your service is terminated.

PACs have to be issued immediately over the phone or within a maximum of two hours by text message.

Once you have your PAC, it’s valid for 30 days and you must give it to your new mobile provider within this time.

If it runs out, you will need to request a new PAC from your existing mobile provider.

Once your new provider has your PAC and notifies your existing provider of the port request, your number will normally be transferred the next working day.

Some mobile phone providers may charge you a fee to move your number. You must also remember that, if you are still under contract to your old company, you may still be liable for charges under that contract."

So anyone should get ther PAC within a maximum of 2 hours!!!

Think I'll phone them back tomorrow and mention this?
  • I asked Vodafone for my PAC code over 24 hours ago and I've still not got it!
  • PACs have to be issued by text within 2 hours. Not by post and not within 24 hours - 5 days. The timescales are different to say a MAC for broadband. This is an Ofcom requirement.

Some one at Vodafone told my girlfriend they could only issue a PAC after she'd cancelled her service and the cancellation had happened. I told her what a load of rubbish that was and she rang back up that time the guy gave it to her immediately over the phone and she got a text message soon after with it too.
  • Just rang o2 for my PAC code and was given it over the phone straight away and also received text message immediately.

    Hi DonnySaver,

If you're still in need of help with this could you email me with your details via the link in our profile here?

All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it will take you to the Contact us form on our website. To make sure it reaches me could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line?

Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. So I can make sure I've got it could you update the thread with this and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?

    Kind regards,

    Lee
