How long should it take to get your PAC code?

On friday morning I requested my PAC code from O2, was told it would be texted to me within 24 hours but it still hasn't turned up.

I gave them until today in case the bank holiday weekend held it up. Then I tried ringing them today to ask where it was but I'd been left on hold for over 30 minutes when I gave up. Thought that was unusual as I've rang them a few times over the last month or so about upgrading and never been on hold more than a couple of minutes.

What should I do?

It's 5 working days, if it doesn't come by then ring them and use the magic word 'OFCOM'.
Not sure about O2, but Orange still post it, thus adding another 3 days.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Okay thanks.

It's just annoying when you're told 'within 24 hours' and it's now taken 5 days.

You can always ring and ask for it again now, but they're not obliged to supply it in less than 5 working days-which would be this Friday.

  • I asked O2 for my PAC code last week.
I was, at the 4th time of asking, told it would be sent by text within 48 hours.
It took 3 days by which time I had received an email with the code.

I asked for it because I can no longer get a signal while at work. So, while I call from my mobile and the O2 rep is trying to convince me that I have a good signal in my area, the phone signal cuts out. 3 times.
It seems that O2 are having regular connection problems - see the forums on the O2 site.
  • I asked for my T-Mobile one last night and got it there and then. They said they would confirm it in the post as well.

Asked for my Virgin PAC few days ago, got it there and then, had it sent by text and also received it in the mail a few days after.
Just called Orange to request another PAC - not given over the phone. Have to wait for it to come in the mail. Apparently due to security reasons:confused:
  • I've now got my PAC code, rang them up and was given it immediately, the guy didn't even try and get me to stay. Now to decide between Vodafone and T-mobile, both offering similar deals.

By the way, what does PAC stand for? Am I repeating by saying code like in ATM machine?
  • Correctly speaking, it is not a PAC code, but a PAC. Just a PAC. PAC is an abbreviation for Porting Authorisation Code
  • Ah okay, thanks.
  • Just phoned Vodafone for my pac.Got it straight away and the lady was very helpfull considering it was my first time.
