OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 2nd September

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Weds 2nd September! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums!
bubblybee, HannahIOW, Michelle shellsmith and gerturdeanna its nice to have you all with us and read your first posts. Don't think I have ever had to say welcome to so many on the same post!
n9eav - I feel so bad that Cornwall has had such lousy weather and yet my part of Devon has been so good. Only a few miles away and such a difference!
Stressedout - I have lots of HG chillis and peppers right now too and though I will freeze or dry some of them my plants are just huge and producing silly amounts of them.
Jet - nice to see you posting again.
Helyg - Your home made jams and curds sound wonderful. When I was at uni I used to make home made lemoncurd and orangecurd and sell it to make a bit of money!
Donny - your 4 day party sounds great
Aussielass - Happy belated anniversary for yesterday.:D
My OH was forced to break suddenly yesterday when a car did the same in front of him. He managed to avoid hitting it but the big 4 x 4 following him didn't have such quick reflexes so our lovely Touran has a huge dent in the back and all the lights are broken on one side. My OH had a headache for a few hours but seems perfectly Ok today thank goodness.
Am half way through a Tescos order and joy of joy they have fresh peas in the pod available. I LOVE them and can sit and shell and eat them like sweeties all day long. I really must get into making menu plans again. I have every good intention and then I just sit there with a blank piece of paper and make no headway. It isn't helped by the fact that my OH used to ask me to offer alternatives in case he doesn't 'fancy' cooking what is on the list.
Spent a lovely day in the garden yesterday with more planned for today, though it did shower once around lunch time. My in-laws came over and did more work on the bank we have been clearing for what seems like weeks.:rotfl:I picked 9 big green peppers off my plants, some red onions, green beans, a few tomatoes and chillis plus four leeks and some beetroot. Plus another huge bunch of gladioli and dahlias that are making the hearth look lovely!
I hope you all have a good day. Warm gentle hugs for anyone who wants or needs one.

Well i thought joining in with this wonderful daily thread may help me focus on the jobs that need doing so here goes....be gentle with me :j
Diva - so sorry to read about yours OH's car accident but thank goodness he is ok, shame about the car though - hugs x
Im in Oz having moved here from the UK 8 weeks ago, we are currently 'camping out' with very little furniture and belongings in an unfurnished rental but our container arrives in the country today, so now its just a matter of customs inspecting it before its delivered, thats when all the hard work will start, de-cluttering, home baking, oh my slow cooker oh how i have missed that!
So for me today, i need to clean bathrooms and the kitchen oh and i need to assemble two bedside tables which were purchased yesterday. Im then going to cook green thai chicken curry with rice for dinner, using a packet mixi dont have alot of cooking 'tools' so its just easier this way. Once my jobs are done Im going to sit and drule over the latest lakeland catalog that arrived yesterday, oh i want so many things, like a jam maker and a roomba. But they will have to wait.
Anyway, i hope ive joined this thread in the correct manner and that everyone has a great day.

Hi Pixie and
to the thread, and yes you have joined in precisely the right way - by just jumping in and congrats on your move to Australia. It's a brave thing to do.
I love the Lakeland catalogue too - there are a few catalogue-a-holics on here so you will fit right in.
Hi to Mioliere too  - I can see you lurking around the boards...:D:rotfl::rotfl:
Edited to add: Oooops there you are, we posted at the same time.. :rotfl:

Good morning all, and welcome to all the newbies - it's great to have you with us.
MSD - sorry about the accident but hope that your DH is not too sore today.
Pixie 1 - congratulations on your move to Oz - we moved to France from the UK in March. I'm sort of settling in but missing the family a great deal; it's the hardest part about moving. I hope things go well for you.
Aussie - Happy Anniversary for yesterday. Hope you had a good day.
Skyped DS2 and DIL yesterday and was rewarded by being able to see my new granddaughter, Summer, looking gorgeous, when they held her up to the camera. I just love Skype - it's the next best thing to actually being there, although I was longing for a proper cuddle. She is doing really well, as is her Mum, who is recovering from her Caesarian and looking great. DS2 is just besotted with them both!
Well, it's too early to tell what sort of day it will be today. We had rain yesterday - the first time for about six weeks. The gardens need it and I daren't complain about it because the UK has had so much lately. We have a peach tree that we have been having to water twice a day - the rain yesterday has really bought it back to life and we have dozens of peaches on it. I shall have to dig out some preserving recipes for them.
I haven't caught up with yesterday's thread yet, so I hope everyone is well and happy.
OS-wise, dinner tonight will be the Economy Gastronomy chicken with biriyani - if I can find the recipe I printed off. I made it a few weeks ago and it was delicious. I missed the last episode because I was back in the UK, so I hope they repeat it at some point. I'd love to find out exactly how you spend £21,000 on food in a year!
Well, I'd better put the kettle on again. See you all later,

Morning.
MSD sorry to hear about the car. Sue everyone!... not seriously at least the insurnace should pick up the bill and no one was injured.
Had to work late last night for a 15 hour day, stupid drunk women
I amde a few quid in overtime, but I was hoping to leave early seeing as I had these 3 days off.... Now I have to work this morning and go to court
Daughter is very happy as she was offered almost £4000 damages for being in a car accident 2 years ago. They have finally sorted it all out....I guess no win no fee is worth a try. She only really had whiplash and some residual back pain which was eventually cleaered up with several weeks physio. The joke is our soldiers get less for getting their tails shot off!
So mixed day of work and play. Some kids go back on Friday, some next week, OH back to work on Friday, so packed lunches again!
Have a good day.....CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone
Diva - hope your OH is OK. But asking for alternatives on meal planning  Start as you mean to go and on you get what you're given
Pixie - what a brave move going to Oz - I am not sure I could leave my parents behind. Hope it works out for you
Welcome to all the newbies :j
Well it's raining here so no idea what I am going to do with the kids today. Soft play centre will still be rammed as kids still not back at school yet.
No more steps from DD  why does she like to tease by doing things like that and then nothing more. It would be so much easier if she could walk as then she could join in with things like walks over the local fields etc.
Anyway tea tonight will be bacon and leek (and probably courgette as I think at the mo we have them with EVERY meal LOL!) pasta bake so nice and easy for me.
DS is telling me the sun has gone to night nght as it's soooooo dark here and he can't see any sunshine - bless him. I love winter but I don't love the very dark mornings. It just makes it twice as hard to get up.
Got a little bit of washing and need to put BM on. Cooked a pork join in SC yesterday so need to cut that up and freeze.
OK off to have a quick nose before getting stuck in to feeding kids etc.
have a good day all OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all,
Gross, I'm eating an apple here and just bit into a rotten bit. Don't you just hate that. I suppose I should have been looking at it instead of reading the thread. Did the floors this morning & bathroom, dusted etc. DH arrived home around lunch time.
Made an appt with the hairdresser for next week and she's going on holiday for 2 weeks starting Friday. But she squeezed me in tomorrow at noon. So that's going to take most of tomorrow up. I have to take a bus, and then walk about 1 klm to her place. Not going to be too pleasant when the weather hots up.
pixie Welcome to Oz. What state did you settle in? If it's Qld you picked the best state. If not, never mind.I had no idea we even had a Lakeland here. Must investigate further.
MSD That's a shame. Glad that DH is fine though.
Hope you all have a lovely day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Belated Happy Anniversary to the Aussies
Last year we grew and foraged 186lb of fruit and veg, this year we've reached 190.5lb and we're not finished yet :j We're aiming for 250lb, not sure we'll manage that though.
Mum was pleased yesterday, I gave her 4 Harry eggs and a homegrown cucumberI was pleased cos she insisted on paying for them, so yesterday I made £1
Not much going on here today, it's wet (but not raining at the mo) so I'll just do some more diary designing. I was hoping to have it ready to sell for 2010 but it's been chaos here lately. Still, plenty of time to perfect it for 2011 :rolleyes:Bulletproof0 -
Children already started shouting at each other! GRRR. Good Morning all - today will be OS in that I will take the kids to a museum (and try not to bring them home!!!) I'm just wondering if I should be crazy and take them to London for a day - quick trip up there to the dinosaurs might be fun!
More important I keep my sanity than have a true OS day!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

life in the Tap household has been extremely hectic lately! not had time to read the thread properly for days:rolleyes: and am off out soon for the day with work - am taking a lady to the aquarium at Chester on a coach trip which should be fun:D
Diva - commiserations on the car but hope your DH is ok x
Aussie - belated Happy Anniverary:beer:
PP - hope you're feeling well:hello:

take care all xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning all,
Diva, hope you OH is ok, when we got hit by the bus the insurance co chased us for weeks asking us to sue the bus company, they just would not believe there was nothing wrong with us
Back to work today _pale_, dd is off till monday, so will stay at home with the dog, she can do a few jobs for me
Gnocci for tea tonight, with garlic bread and salad. Yesterday I made 2 jars of grape jelly out of 1kg of grapes, it has set well, so next week I will pick the rest of the grapes and make loads more, it is delish, quite a 'tart' taste.
Just waiting for my chilis to ripen, and will then have a go at chili jam :j, I am also going to try cutney for the first time, this lot should keep us going through the winter :T
No washing today, as its looking very stormy, but the garden recycling and rubbish are out.
Welcome to Pixie xx
Bitsy, well done to your dd on her first steps :T
Have fun all x0
