Lula, I'm with you on the dye. So far I've done black, purple, fuchsia and turquoise! Have red, grey, green and more purple stashed away. It's great for changing a top you're bored off, or for a gorgeous charity shop in a colour that doesn't suit you (luckily for me pale colours wash me out, so dyeing them is less of a problem as they're usually whites and beiges to begin with
)
As for the job - your instincts will stand you in good stead. And if you can work out the approximate shortfall each month, you'll have an idea of what you need to be aiming for if you were ebaying and surveying and the like and whether it's a manageable shortfall for things like filling DDs boyf's petrol tank.
When did it get to this time? Falling asleep in front of the telly at 8pm wasn't the best idea I've had!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Hello you gorgeous people
I am a tad excited today, I have just completed the last bit of home-job work & now have a whole 10 days without having to do any :j:j.
Apart from the sheer joy of not having to do it :j it will also be an interesting experiment as to how life will be without it. I will have to do many many good things to impress you all so you all say that I should give it up. Although I am almost wanting to hear makeups - 'stop right now with the crazy plan ' post
*wonders whether batch cooking tons of brownies & hobnobs will count*.
No love letter from Uncle Richard today& having just checked my Barclaycard account - it's stagnant at £3600 & interest is due to be added any day now ....
Never mind, it's bright & sunny here today & I was hanging washing out in the garden at 8.45 this morning ( while the freshly cooked cheesy corn potato bake cooled on the windowsill, get me :A) & it was so pretty out there, millions of little dew drops shimmering in the sun, it looked like fairies had been sprinkling diamonds all over the grass.
I've been thinking about all the projects I plan to work on & I cant wait to get started but think I'll slowly start to gather bits & pieces together before launching into action. Have found an ebay furniture seller within 15 miles.
Tomorrow we're going to nearby poshtown ( avoiding lasagne-eating artists with 'sports' cars) to rummage in the charity shops there for bits & pieces & also buy a tin of bathroom paint from big diy store.
Yet another NSD here & can definitely pay £50 to CC so all good.
Niccatw you are inspired - I'd never have thought of buying chazza shop stuff in a dodgy colour with a view to dyeing it & I love the sound of your wardrobe too; purple, fuschia, turquoise, black - fab colours.
:rotfl: DD just asked what puberty is & when I said it's when your body starts to change, she put on deep voice & asked when her voice would drop :rotfl:
bye for now

Well, I am utterly buzzing :j(mostly with sugar) I woke up this morning, saw the sunshine & decided that we needed to go out.
Got paid for home-job & immediately topped up the funds :
DDs -£90
Trips & treats -£100
& paid £50 into my current account.
In a moment of sun-induced madness we headed off to Chessington with £60 of the treats budget in my hot little hand. Just parkin was quite exciting as we headed off road across some dirt tracks & eventually ended up being directed inot a parking spot by a twelve year old in a field that was identical to all the other fields full of cars. It's very sweet of them to hel , but I have been managing to park in spaces somwhat smaller than a field for many years now.
We joined the queue to get in & many times I reminded DD that all the top rides would be rammed & have queuing times of an hour or so. She knows that queuing for any longer than 30 mins is a waste of life unless it's to get into a Killers gigso we had our assault plan in action & headed for her favourite first & as usual being just the 2 of us got us to the front of the queue quickly in order to share vessels
.
Weather was fab, food was appalling & I could probably provide a social commentary that would be so acerbic that this thread would dissolve. Needless to say, I dont mind a spot of queuing as its a fab way to people watch :rotfl:
We had a lot of fun & as I had a free entry ticket it only cost £34 out of the treats budget to get in & although we only went on 5 rides we also spent time in the zoo bit & just enjoyed being out with people around us after having spent the week incarcerated indoors. Total spend including entry, ice creams & 'lunch' was £45 so I have £15 to put back into the treasts fund & it qualifies as a NSD as the money was already saved in the fund .
Treats budget is now down to [STRIKE]£60 [/STRIKE] £55
At home there were 2 letters & a rather hungry cat waiting for us. DD dealt with the cat & I got the letters. First one was from Virgin including a leaflet on the free insurance that's included with the card (that I dont have, with an indeterminate credit limit).
Second letter was not so good. Having used the co op CC to pay for Tatco shopping on tuesday, I then came home & immediately transferred cash form current account to the CC.
Turns out I had miscalculated my balance as the current account transaction for fuel at Tatco 9 days ago has only just gone through & means my CC payment bounced, incurring charge of £19 .
Nothing I can do about it, will just have to swallow it & move on. Of course, I now dont have enough in the account to make that extra payment to Barclaycard so I just used what I paid in today to re pay the Co op CC.
It will all be ok though because I have other news, rather like the Capital One stupid extra payment fiasco ... only more & even more stupid
Need to eat something non sugary first though ...0 -
Hi Lula
Sorry I've not been around..life has gotten in the way. Can't believe that it has gone 10pm and I am still working:eek: I may have some work coming my way..as yon chappy that I see on and off (when it suits me really) asked me about my wedding dresses and did I have one in size 12 white with capped sleeves:eek: I emailed back with loads of alternatives having first enquired whether or not the person getting married (not him but one of the sisters) was up the duff as she decided that she is getting married in church in July (I must say these catholic churches are pretty lenient these days allowing an unmarried mother with kids by different fathers to get married in their church:eek:). Still I have given advice in true MSE style and given a price that I want for one dress which may fit..I have also offered my services re wedding favours too. Things are looking up at long flippin' last:D
Did I read that you were now paying for DD's boyfriend's petrol? You need to stop that now missus let him and her buy their own petrol.
Well done on giving up the home job too.
Sounds like you had a fab day at Chessington..all the better as it was paid from the treats money.0 -
Welcome back Horace & hurray for potential wedding dress sale & business too
.
As to buying petrol - it was just a one off overnight loan the BF had been away & lent DD1 his car, she had to collect him from airport & didnt have her cashcard on her. Her BF is a very smart chap who has taken the card off her & now gives her a weekly allowance :T, something I've been trying to do for ages.
Anyway, fascinating though her finances are ... let's talk about me & His Royal Richardness :
Still smarting over the £19 charge I have now vowed to never use a debit card again, I will now stick to cash or credit cards, instant payment process & no faffing about. I decided to check online banking to ensure no other delayed payments are going to cause havoc, then sauntered over to Barclaycard to look at my stagnant £3600 balance.
It didnt look right , it said I had an available balance of £8950 . I looked again, then checked the transactions & realised that HRR had indeed performed the balance transfer for the original £3750 that I'd requested :j. The discrepancy comes from me continuing to make payments as advised. I now have a CREDIT of £150  on my Barclaycard.
Now it all becomes clear, most people who are not DFWs make their CC payments once a month which is why they are advised to continue so they dont miss one. Me being a bit dim& a bit desperado & with no notification of whether the balance transfer was part of the deal or not, & also keen to prove that I can afford to quit heinous home-job, I just continued to make my as often & as much as possible payments .
This ridiculous business of having credit on a credit card is becoming a bit of a habit :wall:. I need to stop it immediately :rotfl:
Apart from sheer joy at now having that balance at 0% after starting off with an apr of 29.9% with Barclaycard, I can now really truly see light at the end of the tunnel & yes, it's the gleam of a shiny new laptop Just kidding.
Now, the serious question is what do I do about that £150 credit on my Barclaycard ?
I will be very honest here & say that my initial thought was 'ooooh free shopping' :jbut clearly that would be [STRIKE]fun [/STRIKE] ahem, I mean wrongso should I just make a CC payment from Barclaycard to the Co Op CC or is there something else I should do ?
Until I know the limit on the still-invisible Virgin CC I'm not giving Barclaycard up. I do have concerns about the fact that its an MBNA & I seem to remember sending them a rather rude reply to their recent offer of a CC.
Right, must go check on the ebay itemss I'm watching (yes, I do that as well, dont tell sarahb :shhh:)
bye for now

Hi Lula
Haven't been keeping up with the quest recently but thought I'd pop in to see how things are going. Certainly sounds good in some respects, I too would have thought being in credit on a credit card meant free shopping so very well done for holding back from that.
Sounds like you and DD had a great time today as well.
Take careA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Lula, thanks for your comments on my diary. Glad you enjoyed Chessington and sorry that not everyone there was as fab as you and DD. I too could give a bit of social commentary on the folk I encountered yesterday. I ventured out to do some food shopping at the WRONG end of town. Good God. I felt overdressed in my frock and boots....but would probably have felt overdressed in any case as had washed myself before leaving the house, unlike a lot of those characters!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

Hello Tixy, thanks for popping in :A
Hello Souk08 - we need to have words  I bought a really pretty new duvet set today, washed it when we got home, dried it on the line outside & next thing you know, there I am thinking what a shame that it's a bit creased still & before I could stop myself the iron was in my hand :rotfl:.
I agree, white stuff needs to be ironed.
Well, I wish that I could say it's been a NSD, but that would be lying.
I also wish I could say that I had transferred the Barclaycard credit to the Co Op CC ... but that would be downright dishonest.
Instead I decided that I would have a small celebration to mark the occasion of qualifying for a 0 % CC by using up a bit of that Barclaycard credit.
We both needed pyjamas so I bought DD a couple of pairs & a pair for myself. I also bought a couple of cheap pairs of linen trousers that will be perfect for work. DD has been hankering after some new pumps so we went into my favourite shoe shop & having reached a size 3 she is now a total convert to the Faith. The pair she wanted were out of stock but I did manage to get them online & as there's free delivery until tomorrow I'm feeling quite pleased with myself. I could have easily spent a fortune on stuff for myself but managed to restrain myself to just the one pair of neutral & black shoes for work that were reduced from £35 to just £20
& the sunglasses that Shoe Gal told me to buy ages ago :shhh:. I longed for the gorgeous purple & silver skyscraper heels but know that I really wont get an opportunity to wear them any time soon so left them for someone else to enjoy. I'm all heart, me :rotfl:.
This afternoon I discovered that the comfort saddle I bought for my bike wont fit on the pole . I got all grubby while doing it & then lost one of the bolts so I cant even return the damn thing .
I released some of my warm weather clothes from captivity today & discovered that 1) I really really need to lose that weight, & 2) I need a bigger wardrobe .
There is so much work & decorating that needs to be done in this home, sometimes it overwhelms me & I just cant get started. Need a plan.
