The beginning of the end of political correctness - The Telegraph

Gotta love the guy , back to the old days of treating everyone the same regardless of colour , relgion or loack therof , sex , age , sexual preference.
No discrimination including reverse.
Looks like the future to me , or we are in france.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
I think political correctness has had its day, it has served its purpose. It is time to move on.
Much as I disagree with some of Mr Davies views I do think it is time to concentrate our dwindling resources where they will do the most good.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Who really gives a stuff if this guy aint perfect. Politicians expertly play the system; its time Joe and Joanna Public did, and play the long game.
Suppose this guy is in for only one term of office on 30K, only to be replaced by a real moderate. Would the newcomer have the cheek to whack the salary back up to 70K? They would be lynched.
This is real money saving we are talking here folks. And in case it skipped peoples attention, we arent exactly flush.0 -
Problem is defining non-jobs. For instance I have no real need for a Black History month, but I am assuming it may give disenfranchised black people a measure of pride. Similarly International Womens day will pass me by, but again I am sure it has its purpose for those people it is aimed at.
It is very easy to target the non mainstream spending, and slip back to the 70's for a nice white heterosexual racist little Britain.
People love knocking the PC view of the world. Because just under the horizon are a whole cesspit of bigoted views waiting for a justification to resurface. And in a recession it doesn't take long to start looking for targets and people to blame.
I don't normally bother with this stuff - it's pointless - we all believe what we want and these sorts of views are not for changing.
I wonder if you have got this right. I suspect that there is more prejudice today than we had in the seventies. The main difference is that free speech in the 70s allowed people to air their prejudices. Today, like the Russian citizens of old, people are learning to hide their true feelings.
Prejudice and tribal hatred is innate to the human psyche and will never go away. Such characteristics are a weakness but also an essential part of our genetic code for survival. People only grow out of such views with maturity and civilised debate. Debates on such matters today however run a serious risk of criminal prosecution.
Central government has stifled debate on matters like immigration whilst missguided local councils have fostered resentment by appearing to favour minority groups at the expense of other minority groups or the majority. Where will this all end? Another Yugoslavia?0 -
Sorry mewbs can't agree with you here. The BNP are an authoritarian, large government, racialist, anti-trade party. This Doncaster mayor by his very actions has shown himself to be anti-authoritarian, anti-large government, pro-trade and the attempt to show him up as a racist has already failed (though no doubt the major parties will continue to try and paint him as an extremist). He sounds like a right wing BNP loving git to me..
If you want to suggest that any politician who doesn't give millions to one-legged, lesbian transexuals from Somalia with a stutter is a fascist then that's your right. But, doing so just debases and dilutes real cases of discrimination - discrimination which includes politicians deciding to spend taxpayers money unequally on special and vested interest groups."The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else." -- Frederic Bastiat, 1848.0 -
Oh well, stuff the thanks count...
He sounds like a right wing BNP loving git to me.
In fact.. what a t0sser.
'I have only two words of German: "Auf" and "Wiedersehen", ' he says. 'But those are the only words I need.'
I have two words of Anglo Saxon for him...
he doesn't sound like a bnp loving git at all. I think you'll find that is just shouty lefty nonsense.
Uh oh, here is someone speaking sense, better call him a racist, sexist xenophobe really loudly...0 -
He's probably not a BNP supporter as if he was, presumably he'd join the BNP!
According to Wikipedia, he was a member of the Labour Party until 1973, then joined the Tories until 1993, leaving after Major signed the Maastricht Treaty when he joined UKIP.
He hasn't cancelled the Gay Pride event in Doncaster, he has stopped the council part-funding it. The council used to provide £3,000 of a £30,000 budget (link):Pride organiser Jenny Dewsnap said: "We have been told the council will continue to support the event in every other way.0 -
I agree with Wageslave. I don't particularly find the guy likeable, but he's doing what has to be done and cutting spend where it can be cut. We all know spend needs to be cut, but instead we're going to have a long run up to the inevitable where nobody (except the mayor of Doncaster) jumps first. It will be interesting to know how much money he saves and what reduction in bills for council tax payers.0

I think we have moved on a bit since the seventies, I honestly dont think we are a nation of rabid bigots, Mewbie. We seem a pretty tolerant lot to me.
As for the disenfranchised, regardless of creed or colour, what they need is decent houses and jobs not a march around the High Street once a year.
Agree with you 100%.
I think in all the PC fever that's went on over the years the real important, basic and needed things in life have been forgotton.
If a lot more polititians got back to basics we may see more results.
We just don't need this pandering to minority groups.
We can't afford the luxury.
We need facilities for everyone.0
