Toilet Roll Quality....?

  • Just read this thread and thought I'd put my two pence in :0) I thought I was the only one thinking Andrex qaulity had gone down!. I used to buy it, then found Charmine and never looked back. Recently have found it hard getting hold of charmine so went back to Andrex and did not like it one bit!

(Would not have problem buying cheeper brands but find they don't do the job -they get all bitty and mopping up is hardwork! sorry for too much info LOL and all the basic ranges gave me rashes down there! Never again! That was 4 weeks of pure hell and cold baths at 3 am!) You get what you pay for!

I'd normally buy charmin and love it, but find sainsburys barely do it in their shops anymore (they only do it online) and find it very difficult to buy it anywhere else.

My local sainsburys used to, but not anymore and even checked 3 other stores I went into around London.
My local Asda doesn't anymore so all that's left is sainsburys online or my local LidL who only do the big pack for £9.99.

    Anyone else had this problem?
  • We used to swear by Charmin but now use Nicky and believe it is actually better quality. And, unlike Charmin, it's cheap all the time (22p per roll at Farmfoods if you buy a 9 pack) and therefore you don't have to stockpile ridiculous amounts of the stuff, like we used to when Lidl had Charmin on 'special'. On 'normal' prices it's almost half the price of Charmin.

Farmfoods for me 9 rolls for £2.00, cant beat it - I've tried Tesco/Asda value ones and they aint up to much, think tesco discount brand Springforce is ok for the price but Farmfoods wipes the floor with it, and anything else you need wiping.
P.S if your going to farmfoods buy the milk 2l for £1, bout 50p cheaper than Tesco/Asda...

ooh - must check out the Nicky brand - the "discount brand" I bought recently from Tesco was absolutely fine - it didn't disintegrate like many value brands do nor resemble sandpaper.
Charmin is horrible stuff - plumbers love it because it doesn't break down like other tp & thus causes lots of lovely clogs which they earn money for clearing!
  • Plumbers may love Charmine but they love baby wipes even better! More call outs are due to baby wipes being flushed down the toilet than Charmine loo roll which is meant to go down the loo! (my partner is a plumbers son lol)
Ive never have any problem with Charmine personally and I love it! Seen the Nicky brand in Farmfoods but not tried it yet. defo won't be going back to Andrex ever again.
  • Bought some Nicky after reading this thread...and I agree, as does my family, it is nice and soft as well as strong being 3 ply. I'll be sticking with this brand from now on. It's nice for blowing your nose on too as the lotion in it has a pleasant scent. :)

Have never liked Andrex ,it always sheds fluff all over the bathroom !

We have used Nicky ( from farmfoods £1.99 for 9 rolls ) for a while now and its very good quality ,not too keen on the lotion as i cant use it to blow my nose but its lovely and soft for the other end :)

well after reading all the praises for Nicky toilet paper, l thought l would give it a go as the toilet paper was low on stock anyways..(use triple velvet its ok) l am really suprised by how good the quality is, really thick paper and the rolls are fatter aswell!!
also l brought the Nicky kitchen roll, 2 rolls for £1. the rolls are soooo big im sure the two rolls would equal to 3 rolls really (have the print of lemons on them) and to be honest they look as good as the expensive branded ones, most importantly they do the job and last alot longer, with two little kids im constantly using kitchen paper cleaning upafter them and they tend to finish fast!!!
    :T LLB HONS :T
    im well chuffed...........
  • The Nicky kitchen rolls are also a billy bargain, agreed.

We don't use any quilted, velvet or extra thick varieties. We have Edwardian drains and have noticed how they seem to block after using these types so it's ordinary supermarket brands for us which are fine.

Got some the other week which were great but annoyingly I took them out of the packet and can't remember whether they were from ALDI or Somerfield. :)

But.....I'm intrigued to try this Nicky brand now :D.*** co-incidentally on another thread, I've just read someone else singing it's praises but now realised that it's quilted too so perhaps I won't be trying it after all ***
