Definitely a bargain.
Yes, but my overall daily total wasn't!
Just been on nail course. It was good, but it seems that I don't get a nationally recognised qualifiation at the end of it. I would still be eligible to practice in this country because of the way the regulations work, but seeing how far and wide I can get, I'm not sure that's enough. The tutor is going to make enquiries about getting it made into an NVQ for me in the week. Also, it looks like I will have to spend about £200 for equipment on it. I was expecting to have to buy some kit for it, but nothing like that. I'm going to have to have a serious think about this, mainly based on whether or not it will be a 'proper' qualification as that's a hell of a lot of money to spend on something that might mean that I can't use it professionally later, especially given that regulations might change later. :think:Please call me 'Pickle'

What a dilemma. Are there actually any nail courses that have a qualification?..seems a real shame as you were looking forward to it.0

I hate when they do this. This was likely my supposed bargain of a professional cookery course which 'only' cost £600 for the year. What they didn't mention, however, was the £250-300 worth of mandatory equipment. It should be a requirement to publish these costs upfront.0 -

The thing is, this one might well do. I have to wait and see if the lady can get gets in contact with her friend who might be able to sort it out. Just have to wait until she contacts me...:rolleyes:Please call me 'Pickle'

It is annoying, isn't it? I mean, I'm pushing it paying the fees as it is. I knew I would have to buy something, but that's a lot (It's actually £150 up to now, but I'm assuming it will be about £200 by the time I include my exam fee, if that's a workable proposition). I mean, if I was turning this into my career I wouldn't blink twice as I would know that whatever I invest now would come back to me tenfold over the duration of my career, but I don't know (or have any plan at the minute to use it that way), so it seems a lot for a 'hobby' course. I mean, I would use it, but I would need to treat about 25 clinets just to make my costs back at this rate! Hmm....going to have to think hard about thi.sPlease call me 'Pickle'

so it seems a lot for a 'hobby' course
I know I'm a man and therefore ignorant in the ways of the nail industry, but how would it ever work as a 'hobby'? Maybe if you had a massive social circle and could build up social capital by giving your friends top talons on the cheap, otherwise I can't really see how it justifies the cost?
If you're not going to use it, maybe it's not worth it at this very moment? Doesn't mean you can't go back to it later! This is the very reason I stopped doing my cookery course and why I haven't bothered with driving lessons yet - if you're not going to use it and it will be a regular drain on your finances for some time to come, maybe it's not really an option?0 -

When I say 'hobby', I mean something that is not going to be my full-time day job: something I can use to make a bit of money on the side, but that won't be my 9-5. However, all things considered, I'm giving serious thought to not persuing it. I will make a final decision when I hear back as to whether or not it can be made into a NVQ or not. Please call me 'Pickle'

OK, so I sent my ghd hair straighners back to ghd to see if they could repair them for me (dodgy cable). I received a letter on Fri/Sat saying asking me to ring them, which I did today. They said that they couldn't repair them as they were too old (which I find strange as there are many people advertising that they can repair any model on the internet), but offered to sell me a new pair for £90. (What's the bet they don't just throw the old ones in the bin but have some sort of a refurbishment service or sell them on to another company to sell them or similar?) To be fair, that's a bit less than the RRP, but if you aren't stupid you can get them elsewhere for that price. I said I would have to think about it, and asked how long the offer would be on the table for, and they said 2 weeks. I asked about posting my old ones back, and they said I would have to pay £10. I then thought about it and looked up some of the people on the internet who repair them, and rang one of them. One man who doesn't live a million miles away said he could repair them for £25 (market rate from what I've seen), including a 6 month guarantee on the work (although he said that there was a 1 year guarantee on the cable from his manufacturer. Hmm.). I then rang ghd back to ask about getting them sent back, with my credit card at the ready to pay the slightly over-the-odds postage, only to be told that they only accept postal orders, and will send them out once the PO has cleared. Great. So they are going to have hold of my straighteners for ages while all that goes on.
I have found their after-sales service to be singularly unhelpful, and the smarmy woman on the phone made me want to stick my arm down it to grab her by the neck and throttle her. I bet they damn well could repair my straightners if they wanted, but they just want to flog me more straighteners, then make it more difficult than necessary to get them back by not accepting CC (to minimise their costs, push it on to customer and maximise annoyance to us and hopefull browbeat us into buying another pair by making it harder to get the original ones bacl), and also by not being straight in correspondance about how much it costs to get them back in the first place. I understand that they are a business, but they aren't winning any fans this way: if I have to replace the straighteners, I shall be investigating a different company from now on in.
It looks like I won't have my straighteners working for at least another fortnight now. Splendiferous. I don't have any parties to go to when I would like to have nice hair, or anything. :mad:Please call me 'Pickle'
