upgrade to sky+

Well I've just spoken with Sky's cancellation department and I got nothing, they didn't even try to keep me. The guy even asked what my card number was so that he could cancel it.
I want Sky+ and the current offer is free box, £20 installation but you have to take out Mulit-room. I don't want multi-room so I was told that if I purchased it without Mulit-room it would cost £209, a very big difference. I spoke to two departments prior to the cancellations, 1st department on ringing the upgrade department and they then transferred me to another department although not sure which as I couldn't understand her accent when she said I was being transferred. Both said they couldn't do anything. I even offered to pay more for installation or something for the box but still nothing.
I told both departments that I was very unhappy and felt like an unvalued customer and still nothing so that is when I decided to go for it and threatend to cancel. How do people do this and get a free box out of it? I was just given the number for the cancellations department, I was not transferred.
The cancellation department also told me that as we have never taken up any of their offers, always half price sports or movies, that's why they never contact us with more offers.
I avoided our contract being cancelled by saying I am still very unhappy etc, etc, but I would have to discuss it with the other member of the household. I kept stressing that I am unhappy, feel like an unvalued customer and that I'm ready to leave, but it all feel on deaf ears.
The other annoying thing is that I had to pay for the phonecalls, and I've got nothing out of it.
So what's the best tips on getting a Sky+ box at a reasonable price?0 -
As I mentioned in another post. I left Sky recently and a couple of days ago they sent me a letter saying that I could get a free Sky+ box with free installation. I left not intending to go back but they have managed to entice me with this offer. Maybe you guys should try actually leaving a wait a while and see what comes up. I'm sure they will try to get you back, however they can.0

Knowing my luck I'd leave and they'd never contact me again. I have heard so many times, and not just on this site, that people ring up and threaten to leave and then they get what they want. I don't want to chance it0

Well there is another side of the coin leave and leave it a week or so and phone up as a new customer thay cant refuse you new customer deals can they!
They prob got you pegged down on there computer sys as someone that wont leave at the end of the day they don't care about you as a customer they never have prob never will. we are all stats and business and numbers and they must hear hundreds of people a day threating to cancel and know they actually won't
e.g. "I was very unhappy and felt like an unvalued customer and still nothing"
only way to deal with it properely call there bluff phone up and say spoke to husband or whoever, say YOU can live without it as is credit crunch and one of you has just been made redundant so can not really afford sky really anymore so you will cancel leave a pause so THEY can think with there lightbulb either give you a deal or they won't. if they don't just go along with it still takes 30 days for them to switch you off and worse case you lose you sky for a week or two and have to come back as a new customer.
But for gods sake have some balls and don't back down they must see 20-30 of you a day at least and fed up with it.0 -
i'm going to give them a ring this week and cancel if i can't get a decent offer on sky+ and reduce my bills to new customer £18.50 (sky, phone and broadband)
worst case cancel and then rejoin with new wife name ;-)0 -

Yes they can. They don't classify you as "new" until at least 12 months have passed. You'd have to sign up with a different name and explain that you'd just moved house.0 -
I already know about the 12 months catch, so that's a bit of a hard one to get around as I don't want to be without broadband as we have a bundle with them.
We couldn't put it in my name as I wouldn't pass the credit check, not because of debt or anything but because I'm one of the lucky ones who's never been in debt, don't have a credit card, no loans etc, so in their eyes I'm not good as there's no proof I'd pay anthing back. Daft eh.
I checked with my friend who recieved a letter from Sky about upgrading to Sky+ and their offer was a free box and £20 installation. Work that one out? The letter said it was due to being in one of the latest digital switchover areas, well so am I.
I'm going to give it a week or so and then I'm going to ring on a Tues or Wed and see what happens.
So peeps, what exactly have you said to get the free box?0
