    :hello:Good Morning!

    Happy wedding anniversary Aussie lass!

Welcome Hannah, best advice I can give is to pop along to the September grocery challenge for lots of great advice (off there myself asap) well done on the batch cooking - that is a great saving, home made takeaways!

Today I am recovering from the lovely family barbecue we had on Sunday to celebrate dh and my birthdays! It was wonderful to spend some time with the family and close friends. We have plenty of burgers, sausages and chicken in the freezer now and I'm attempting to freeze up small quantities of houmous and salsa for a treat later on. Going to need some treats as we are now on a strict budget! Got to save for ds's wedding, dh's new car and some urgent decorating.

A warning about the salsa from Approved foods (the huge 3.78 lt size for £1) it's lovely but it is very spicy! I am going to freeze it down into 2 portion sizes and hopefully that might tame it!:rotfl:

The birthday cake was a fab carrot cake from Costco (14 very big portions for £7.99) delicious! We also bought the mini ice cream tubs from Aldi (also very nice) and I'm re-using the lidded containers to freeze down all the left overs!

Right got to get back to flying in the kitchen now!

(((hugs))) to all who could use one

Just come back to say welcome to gerturdeanna - yes stock would freeze very well like that - great idea! I make smoothies using a frozen banana, frozen berries and some soy milk!

    Catz x

Welcome HannahIOW- sounds like you are making a good start with your chilli and cottage pie, cooking double is a good idea as you have a couple of home made 'ready' meals available for when you are too tired to cook from scratch, and you save on fuel.Keep up the good work-lots of tips on this forum :D

    Donny-sounds like a belting party>
Happy 30th Anniversary Mr & Mrs Aussie.
    Halight-glad you enjoyed your weekend.

We enjoyed our weekend. We went to a Food Festival in town on Saturday, the Hairy Bikers were doing a demo in a big marquee but it was a sell out so didnt get in-heard them though, sounded good.Bought some smelly French cheeses, which we have been having for our lunches.Had a lovely meal at the local Italian on Sat night, and had a drive into the lovely Lancashire countryside in our old banger yesterday. We pulled into a layby at the top of a big hill to enjoy the view, and another couple in a classic car pulled in- turned out we've met them before at a rally.

Having a good tidy up today, stuff all over -theDSons were away at a wedding overnight on Sunday,so suits need to be returned etc.

Mince for tea, prob will make into chilli, with rice for tea.I got some reduced blackberries yesterday so have open froze them so I can just get out a few at a time. They are rather bigger than the ones I picked last week
    Take care all.x

Thank you catznine, I'm off to check it out now! I go to the supermarket with all good intentions (and a list!) but I had my OH with me and he tends to sneak things into the trolley... almost had a heart attack when we got to the till and it was my turn to pay!

I have the urge to attempt bangers and mash with onion gravy tonight having seen a nice recipe for the gravy somewhere on here :D

  • Morning everyone

I can't believe it is September already!

The kids don't go back for another week here so lots of time left for fun... so they keep telling me.

Not much planned for today, I have the makings of a spag bol in my slow cooker but I need to have a look around on here to find out what herbs to add to it - I confess in the past I have always added a shop bought packet mix to make it more yummy but I am determined to make my own properly today.

I have some balckberries in the freezer (bought not picked) so I need to find something to do with them aswell.

Hope everyone has a nice day and starts the month as they wish to go on :D
  • Afternoon everyone - I have been reading the various posts on the forums for about a month now, and today is the day I begin to try and live truly "Old Style" by mainly trying to cut down on Supermarket/shopping bills.

Have nominated £400 pound for my first month which will hopefully be more than enough, but less than normal - just about to have a review of my cupboards and freezer before sitting down to write a meal plan and shopping list. Go me.

I have a beef casserole in the slow cooker for dinner tonight with lots of leftover veg that would usually get thrown away.

Am also going to be adding pearl barley and lentils to my shopping list as from what I've read its a very good way of bulking out meals.

So a big thank you to you all over the last month for all the advice I have read and I hope I can put it to good use.

    afternoon to everyone.

been ages since i've posted in the daily thread. what have i been up to,lol.

Welcome hannahiow. i'm on island also.

Well today i've had the fab task of sewing name tags into school uniform. got 2 lots this year as my son also starts. but it has been quite relaxing sat sewing while kids been playing.

i've made a chicken and mushroom pie for tea this evening. well made the base just need to make some puff pastry in a bit.

Washign is on line then it decided to rain. but it is now very blowy so hoping it might just dry. i've got so much washing to do. been really busy last couple of days and i've not kept on top of it like i normall do.

i'm having a bit of a good old long think about things today. i've realised recently friends i though i could trust i not sure i can. i don't often let things get to me. i generaly just put things to back of my mind and get on with it. but i not so sure anymore thats the way to do things.i realise every one is different and i like to keep myself to myself and thinking that is definatly the way to go. so while i'm cleaning and cooking thats a good time to think.

i've also found a pack of yellow split peas so want to search for some recipes.

hope everyone is having a really nice day and enjoying the fab autumy weather. can't wait for winter

    Afternoon peeps

bit late on here today as i`ve been finishing off everything that i started yesterday along with a whole new list of chores

The house is completely scrubbed top to bottom :j it all looks lovely and clean and tidy which no doubt will change the instant that DH and the 2 dogs return from their fishing trip later
The washing has all been done, put out to dry in the lovely breezy sunshine, fetched back in and ironed and put away. The bramble and apple jelly has been made and is now nestling away in the back of my cupboard.
I`ve also managed to clear out a wardrobe and a chest of drawers so i feel as if i`ve achieved quite a lot today. I shall be off for a nice hot shower shortly, afterwards i shall feel human again :D

 Happy Anniversary to the Aussies  enjoy your day!

Welcome to Hannah, Gertrudeanna & Michelle and welcome back to Jcr16 :hello:

Essex Girl - I`m another one who hasn`t totted up the Grocery challenge totals for August yet :o always seem to leave it until the last minute these days and i just know that i`m over budget.

    :hello:Afternoon all

well back to work today after the lovely long weekend and it was absolutely manic! Never mind I have finished for the day now. Had a lovely weekend near York in the caravan and the weather was fairly kind to us:D

Tea today is a HM lasagna I found lurking at the bottom of the freezer - nearly time to do a batch cooking session to fill freezer again but firstly I want to try to use up all the "odds and sods" so I can start again - it could take some time.

DG glad to hear the rally/party went well. I must admit that as we were driving around over the weekend I did see a bunch of caravanners (is that the right collective word lol:D) with a huge marque and I did wonder if it was you:D
Helyg sweetcorn soup sounds nice - any chance of your recipe I love sweetcorn!
Aussielass and Aussielad - congratulations on your anniversary - that is some achievement:beer:
halight good luck with the jam making I think that was a good bargain for your pan
Welcome Hannah, Gerturdeanna and shellsmithcat

SunnyGirl just in case you are reading but have no time to post - we miss you !

    Have a good day all
