Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 1st September 2009 It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Good Morning All
Why I am awake at silly o'clock I have no idea, so thought I would start today off, after my latest jolly, though rest it has not been. having 4 day party for DH's 60th. As you know we are touring caravan "nuts" and ralliers to boot, so decided to marshall (run) a rally for his birthday, with the help of some good and kind friends. We were in the grounds of the Sports and Social Club of a nearby Power Station, which was very pleasant and the Social Club got some extra trade as well. The only thing we almost ran out of was red wine:rolleyes: and had to re-stock.:o I arranged for friends from over the years, to keep appearing, unbeknown to DH. Kept the BBQ food very simple for the "surprise" guests, burgers and sausages from our local butcher and very nice they were too, with HM salads, pasta and rice, all via the kitchen in a small 'van. DS came home to help his Dad celebrate, with his GF, so a blitz on house is on the cards for today.
It sounds like a few of you have been in the wars, Jackie-0 hope you get better soon from your fall, shame to spoil the holiday. NPM hope you get a break soon.
 to the old faces (names) dropping in.
Feeling sleepy now so will try to go back and grab another hour.

Morning Donny-gal and all who follow.
Up and about early this morning to try and get myself back into the routine of early mornings for school which starts on Thursday
It looks like being a brighter day today after yesterdays Monsoon like rainfall. My washing is still out on the line there was no way I was going out in that rain to collect it.I'll nip out in a mo and get it and rewash it.I've a pile of ironing to tackle so that should keep me out of mischief till the kids make an appearance.
If its nice today I think a last trip to the park is on the cards.I might even take a picnic lunch.Need to nip to Aldi on the way back though for some of their cheap veg.
Yoghurt Machine has been on all night so that needs emptying and the yoghurt draining.I cleaned through downstairs yesterday so its upstairs at some point today.
I'll give the kids sausages and poached eggs for brekkie and I've a shedload of cooked chicken in the fridge so Chicken Salad for tea I think with ice-cream for pud
Donny-gal- glad your hubby had a great time even though it was exhausting it must have been good fun
MSD-Hi!!!!!!!!!!

Morning and welcome to Autumn.
I was up earlier too, don't know why? Last day at work today for me then 3 days off.
Had a meal at a pub attached to the premier inn near Newquay. A farewell to our USA friends who leave today. Not too bad, 3 courses and 2 beers for around £16 each. Food was tasty too...... Much better and cheaper than Garfunkels in London last week.
Well, best get ready I suppose. Have a good day

Morning All
Donny - your 4 day party sounds great
N9eav - very autumnl (sp) here too
Am up early too to start getting back in the school routine which starts proper on thursday, also I have shed loads of work in my office to get though. OH is driving today as a driver on holiday so I am hoping that the kids amuse themselves
Just having a little surf then will be getting dressed & starting on the massive in pile, have some washing that needs to get done but will leave the ironing till tomorrow. Tesco coming this morning then I must update my August grocery challenge totals. Chicken n mushroom with wine & cream served with rice for dinner tonight.
Picked loads of cherry toms yesterday but there is just enough for us, most years my friends get given bags full. Marrows all gone just some runners left. Did quite well but aim to be better next year. Thats reminded me I have some bulbs to plant so will get them done next week.
Best be off, have a good one.x0 -
Morning everyone.
Boy that wasn't a relaxing bank holiday monday. I feel shattered today!
Took DS for a walk over the local fields and met my mum as I wanted to pick some blackberries for her. Got enough for a couple of pies so that should keep my dad happyCame back, went food shopping (I had to queue to get into and out of the car park at the supermarket it was so busy - it was as bad a Xmas!). After unpacking shopping I then did a load of gardening and tidying up. Couple that with running round after the kids I feel beat today
So that being the case I am going to try and have an easy day today.
Made my first batch of HM chicken stock in the SC yesterday so I hope that turned out OK. Just got to portion it up and I can put it into the freezer (I just hope to remember it's in there).
Dinner tonight is creamy chicken and pepper cous cous. Not made it before so I hope it tastes OK.
Might fit in some baking today as there are no goodies in the house (and tiredness hidden in the form of a sugar craving was calling me last night!) so had to make do with a beer instead :rotfl:
Haven't read yesterdays thread yet so will head of there for a catch up.
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day everyone OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Hi all. Donny - that party sounds brilliant!
Not been on here much lately; I really don't know where the time has gone since we came back from the UK.
It's raining here after two glorious days, and I see that the UK has been promised 'autumnal' weather. I must admit, I always like autumn over there, but the kind I like is when the sun shines and the weather is crisp and dry. I think we're sharing the same 'band' of rain between us.
Well, we've been busy trying to get back to normal after our trip away. DH has gone back to work so that will give me more time to get organised.
Dinner last night was a roast, despite the hot weather. Today we're having stovies. I love them with beans but had to wait until we visited the UK to buy some more. They do beans here but they are very bland.
I've got the BM and the WM on, although I don't think I'll be hanging any washing out unless the rain stops.
I hope all the children going back to school this week have a great start to the new term! It's such a shame the weather has been so poor during the six week break, though.
Well, I'd better get on with the chores. Hope you all have a great day.
See you all later.

Morning all!
Well the sun is out here for the first time in days, although it is that nice, low in the sky, autumnal sunshine.
Have to pop into work for an hour or so this morning to get everything ready for the new term tomorrow. Then I have to get everything ready for the new term for my own kids!
OH has taken his first flask of sweetcorn soup to work this morning, along with bread and butter, Twinks Hobnobs and a banana, hopefully it will fill him up! Going to make some corned beef pasties later to put in his box tomorrow.
Hope you all have a good day! x0 -
Good morning all!
The sun is out here and hoping it stays as we are going to Newby Hall with my mum and dad. Trying to fit lots in before dd starts school next week.
Went blackberrying yesterday but only got 1.5lbs so mum has frozen them and we're going to go for more next week-there were a lot of red ones yesterday, but it'll be easier without our small 'assistant'!
Need to go and get the picnic made.
Hope everyone has a good day.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning everyone,
It's the first day of Spring here. I like to be a bit different.Made a cake this morning as well as a sweet curry for tea tonight. DH took me out to lunch and we're both not at all hungry yet so think it will be a late tea. Just have to boil the rice & re-heat the curry so no big deal. One of the DH aunties gave me the curry powder on Saturday. It's from some spice shop in her suburb. She's told me about it before and was nice enough to buy me two packets. It tastes delicious.
It's our 30th wedding anniversary today. Been a lovely day and luckily DH didn't have to work. Not a lot to report today but will try harder tomorrow.
DG The party sounded great. Glad it was a success.
Enjoy your day. <hugs> to those not well. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
