I went into Carpetright today and they suggested Vinyl which is non slip and looks like laminate in the pattern. I'll also get a Turtle mat for the backdoor. This way I can still mop the floor.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We have polished solid wood. In the worst of winter we put carpet remnants down (we get them cheaply) the rest of the year turtle mats are lifesavers (they wash well and dry quickly and provide reasonable traction.) with polished floors it IS important to give a traction giving ''pontoon'' of rugs etc. We hate doggy smells lingering: for me carpet would be a no-no. but wood/laminate alone would be cold and slippatry surfaces do have risks. I think we have the best of both worlds.

Cleaning, btw, I mop a lot in winter, but the alternative is all that yuck going into carpets, it takesbt seconds with a damp mop.

My old greyhound has a fairly nonchalant attitude to toilet training - any kind of stress he forgets it - so we're going to go with vinyl in the extension/dining room.

I like the wooden effect ones - they actually look a lot better than I had imagined and are textured rather than shiny. I'm still going to put down turtle mats though :)

  • where is the cheapest/best place to get turtle mats, they look fab :)

We've just had laminate (£9pmtr from B&Q) laid in the new garage conversion and i'm now considering spending to get it laid in the lounge and entrance hall.

I know its a budget floor but the carpet gets filthy and i'd much prefer to be able to sweep it a couple of times a week :)

  • We have wooden, quarry tile and laminate floors throughout the house. The horrid shiny laminate in the bedrooms, but the dogs don't really go in there.

We have three very active dogs and the thought of the mud, toilet and food accidents seeping into a carpet doesn't seem at all hygienic to me. Only my opinion folks - I'm too lazy to get down and scrub a carpet :o. Any accidents can be mopped up in seconds and we're back to a clean floor again.

It does take an awful lot of sweeping, but surely that is muck that needs to be cleaned anyway, not just hidden in the carpet. :):D

For those who are worried about slippage it's possible to buy paw wax to give your dogs some extra grip.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

PennY how does that Paw wax work?
  • Hi
Paw wax is a wax you put on the dogs pads or you can get it in a spray can about £9 people use it for dog showing so they don't slip when running around the ring ( down side to it collects all the dirt on the floor.

well thanks for all the input my dogs when muddy after being on the field have to go right though the house to get to the garden where they are then hosed off and towel dryed , I do have a carpet cleaner which up to now has worked well but as dogs have there bones that makes a mess , so will look around and get some prices for hard wearing carpet .
