Carpets or Hard flooring

He's obviously never seen a dog on laminate running on the spot trying to get some traction, or seen a dog do the splits on it. I have textured vynil in the conservatory and when the dog runs in from the garden when it's wet he can do a very impressive skid !
:rotfl:Lol I know it's not funny but
It is a worry if they injure themselves. I guess the question is do you love your dog enough to compromise which i'm willing to do.
Any information about the non slippery type that have groves instead of the sheen?0 -

He's got 2 labs of his own and his home is fully laminated he tells me, so I guess he has seen it

We were planning on doing all downstairs with wood flooring, we did the first room and one of our dogs slipped on it and damaged her cruciate ligament so we kept the carpet. Its cream wool though and a nightmare to keep clean, I have rugs everywhere trying to cover it and they know they have to have their feet wiped coming in from the garden when its raining, bless them they stand there lifting one leg at a time so I can wipe it.0

Carpets! As others have said you will hear your dogs walking about on hard floors 'clip clop clip clop' is about right!
Also my dog manages to slip over sometimes on carpet if she's trying to turn a corner too fast, so it'd be much worse on a hard floor.0 -
I have my living area and hallway laminated. As I have a door to the outside at each end it is very practical for muddy paws. Carpets would get filthy in no time as I can tell from the muddy footprints.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

I read an article a while ago saying that shiny flooring is very bad for all animals - their legs splay ever so slightly whilst walking on it which over time causes major damage to the tendons or whatever it is that connects them all together.
Unfortunately I can't remember where I read it but just thought it was worth a mention.August grocery challenge: £50

I read somewhere that there are mats that soak up mud and wet but can't remember what they were.0 -

Turtlemats? http://www.turtlemat.co.uk/
We have laminate in the living room and the dogs have often slid over on it or done a bambi on ice impression as they tense up when worried and then loose grip. We have a big rug which covers most of it at least. I did think perhaps it was just as its cheap nasty laminate but my old boss had decent wood flooring and said his dog slid over and broke its leg.
Carpet is a pain if they have toileting accidents but does seem to be more comfortable for them to walk/lay on and hides the hair better between hoovers. Vinyl or rubber flooring is something i've thought of as a possible laminate replacement later on but not sure how well it would cope with the claws.0 -
Thanks Moomin. I'll check the Turtle mats out. I'm going to the carpet shop today to look at carpets and Laminate and go from there. A very large rug is another option i'll look at and compare prices.0

we have Laminate i dislike it, its cold and i end up brushing the floor twice a day which is a pain, but i wouldnt change it for the world after the rooms been aired and washed over each morning it doesnt smell of dog, my neighbours are clean people but have carpets down and everytime they open the french door's the smell of dog hits you.0
