Sleepmasters Sensaform mattress range - any good?

We bought our Sensaform Panache mattress less than a year ago. From day one it was hot and sweaty, even when changing down from a 13.5 to a 4.5 tog quilt. More recently we have both developed aching backs and there are 2 permanent dips in the bed where we sleep. When we bought a new mattress (ordinary pocket sprung with no memory foam) and went to swap over the mattresses we noticed the underside of the memory foam mattress was mildewed. So much for temperature and moisture control, key features of the bed supposedly. We can't wait to get rid of the Sensaform mattress- it is so badly mildewed we couldn't even donate it to a charity shop- and will never set foot in a Sleepmasters store again or recommend it to anyone.
I can understand why you would be, but don't be put off memory foam by a poor quality mattress (which the Sensaform range appear to be).
The Panache contains the cheaper and smaller reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs, which don't allow air to circulate around the spring layer as a mattress containing full size steel pocket springs. This is probably the main cause of the mildew, along with the fact that the mattress is non turn, which means that all the moisture just builds up in the mattress and never gets aired.
Also £650 (their sale price for the king size) is more than double what you should pay for a mattress of this spec.0 -
So far, our Sensaform Chic is proving to be incredibly comfortable and no problems so far with dipping or heat (about 4 months old). We really are delighted with it.
We almost bought the Panache.... you'd have thought the Chic, being in the same range but a hundred quid more would be the same as the Panache but just with more pocket springs as per the description. The Chic was significantly firmer than the Panache though.
The manager showed us technical info on the screen on his PC in the store that showed it was memory foam and not reflex foam.
I hope these problems aren't round the corner for us when summer arrives...0 -

I don't think you fully understand. Both mattresses have a layer of memory foam on top, but they both contain reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs. The only difference is the Chic is tufted, and the Panache is micro quilted. And the Chic has a few more springs which are slightly firmer.
The tufting on mattresses with full size steel pocket springs is part of the structure of the mattress, and is there to hold the springs in place, and prevent them from going like dominos. The tufting on the Chic is just cosmetic, and serves no purpose.0 -
i just got one of theses beds two weeks ago and its killing me!! it doesnt even feel like memory foam compared to our old bed!! not a happy bunnylove you lots like jelly tots0

Hi All. I came on here and was horrified that I may be going through the same problem as many others. I have just recieved THE letter from Sleepmaster to tell me my Sensaform mattress 'Breasley Sensaform Ortho' (cost £500.00 half price) does not have a fault and the reason the mattress has a dip either side where we sleep and a big ridge (as we call it) down the middle is down to our bedstead. We had the visit from Ecomaster and the young guy sat, laid and lifted, and came to the conclusion that there was not a fault. He did not hardly say a word on the visit but maybe he knew I would question him and his missjudgement. My back ache, the 2 dips and the ridge would dissagree with him.
I even said to Sleepmasters that I would be willing to go back to their shop and buy a more expensive convensional mattress if they gave me a gredit note, but the lady I spoke to today basically (in a very nice manner) said NO.
So the only thing now is do I go back to the company I bought the bedstead from and say you bed has caused my mattress to dip or do I take the mattress down to the shop at the weekend and ask everyone who walks into the shop to try it out and then maybe something may happen,,,i just hate all of this hassle.
Just don't know what to do next really.
Thanks for listening.

First of all, are you sure it is made by Breasley??? Sensaform are Sleepmasters own brand, but Breasley are a seperate company. This is a link to the companies who are in the same group as Sleepmasters: http://www.sukf.co.uk/
The reason for the dips in your mattress is most likely caused by the bubbles in the reflex foam (the bottom layer) starting to burst. This is one of the common problems with reflex foam, which is why I'm not a big fan of it. You will often find that many manufacturers of reflex/memory foam, or reflex foam only mattresses will say that a dip of up to about an inch is normal wear and tear, and is not covered by their guarantee. However I personally don't think that a mattress that has dipped at all is acceptable. I would go to trading standards, and say that the mattress is unfit for purpose.
I presume that it was Sleepmasters who sent guy from Ecomaster?........well just think who is paying them. Do you really think they are that independent?0 -
Hi Tim, thanks for the reply. Don't know where I got Breasley from to be fair I must have taken it down wrong somewhere. But Yes Sleepmasters did send the guy from EcoMaster so yes I felt the same that if they have a big contract with them how would this be impartial. They will never go against the hand that feeds them. I will go to trading standards as I hate this type of bullying. They must assume that if they get a report done that they are covered, but it clearly is a problem. The Problem I have though now is that the so called independent EcoMaster have said it is not the fault of the mattress but my bedstead, which was also new at the time.
There was nothing said at the time of purchase that if the mattress is put on any other bedstead it could cause problems, if they had why would I not listen???????? It just seemd like a standard reply and a standard conversation I had with the woman at customer services (it really shouldn't be called that, should be customer yawn...bla bla bla).
So lets say trading standard look at my complaint...do they pay for and get an independent company to come and check my bed? Will they ask me to do this? I even said to the lady I would pay to have another survey done and she said very quickly that I would have to inform them first who it was so they could ok the company....what!
Maybe if I told them who it was they could call them first and set up another contract like they have with ecoMaster lol.
Thanks anyway

Did you also buy the bedstead from Sleepmasters at the same time?
As for who pays for the engineer, I would ask trading standards.0 -
No the Bedstead came from an online shop, can't for the life of me remember the name but no not from them, but it is a good solid bed stead, infact it is probably the best one we have ever had, so I was a bit dissapointed when he said in his report it was because of the bed stead we were having problems.
